I've just found my final great great grandparent hidden away in Shropshire and decided now is the time to stop chasing numbers and start to put more flesh on the bones of those people I know.
Ann Blundell was born in Southport in 1828 (by census calculation) and married John Dow, a Scot, in 1848 at Sefton Church. They had four children Jennette, Sarah (both 1849), Margaret (1851) and James (1857). This was the same year that she died.
I wonder if anyone has Ann (or the others) in their tree. Who were her parents. Did the final childbirth kill her. How did she come to marry a Scot.

I can't yet find a marriage for this James BLUNDELL to Ellen.
Are you talking about the Ann born 1826? If so, you cannot get a Birth Certificate for her as Certificates were only issued post-1837! The only way to be sure of her dates are to check the Parish Register for her baptism and hope that the Clerk has entered a date of birth for her - if not you can only use the assumed age(s) given on the Census Returns.

Good news Mike. Just an aside but it is possible to have 2 children born in the same year and they not be twins...as long as there was 9 months between them. I.e January and September, February and October and March and December.
The ages are not recorded when they are baptised and some families got several of their children baptised at the same time.
This may or may not make things easier for you. I have Blundells in my family history. I must check your inofrmation out and see if I can place one or two on my line.
Some answers give more questions!

Thanks Dotty, you may be able to help with a new Blundell related query that has now cropped up.
This little group have got me intrigued, I need to know more about them, I even need to know what they had for breakfast.
This is what I think I know;
James Dow, son of John Dow and Janet Robin was born in Muthill, Fife on 24th August 1820 and christened in the local Episcopal Chuch on 5th November. He later says he was born in Blackford on two censuses but the two are only about eight miles apart.
In 1841 on the Scottish census he is an agricultural labourer in Muthill, aged 20.
Sometime between 1841 and 1848 he moves to Sefton and meets Ann Blundell (or the other way around) and they marry at St Helen's Church in Sefton on 25th June 1848.
Ann is the daughter of James B and Ellen Jump and born in Halsall but christened at the other St Cuthberts in North Meols in 1826.
Children follow quickly; Jennette/Jannet/Janet and Margaret Ellen (later known as just Ellen) in 1849, Sarah in 1851 and James in 1857.
By 1851 they've moved to Litherland Park (except little James who isn't born yet).
Shortly after James birth (2nd Quarter 1857) Ann dies (3rd Q 1857) by then they're all in Southport.
By 1861 James, a widower, plus Janet and Ellen are living at 95 Lord Street with William and Sarah Carr (a William Carr married a Sarah Blundell and Ann had a sister Sarah and a Sarah Blundell was a witness at her wedding so I assume that these are in-laws as well as employers) it is a Greengrocer and Grain Dealers. Little James and Sarah are missing but a Sarah Dow dies in 1853 so that may be her.
In 1864 James also dies. The twins are 14 or 15. Little James is maybe 7.
In 1881 James Junior turns up again, in the household of Uncle William Carr (mistranscribed Curr) a Gun and Marine Dealer's Store at 121 Eastbank Street. Also there are two grown up Blundells and four little ones. The older two are Gilbert, age 50 (Ann's younger brother) and Ellen 32 (the Margaret Ellen above?).
So now the questions!!
Why did James move hundreds of miles South in the 1840s,
Is it significant that four of his siblings went even further, to Australia,
Where is James Junior between 1857 and 1881 (it is probably he who dies in 1934 aged 76),
Did Gilbert Blundell marry his sister's daughter, is this legal,
Does anyone know anything about the Grocers at 95 Lord Street 1n 1861 or the Gun Dealers at 121 Eastbank Street in 1881. The latter must have been a thriving business with William running it and employing both Gilbert and James.

We have a society member who has Carrs in the family. She also mentions a shop in town. If you are a member of the society you could look up the members who are researching the Carrs.
Have you tried posting on a Scottish website to see what they have to say?
