Have Ann Wright born abt 1796 Rowe Lane, North Meols, widowed when she married Thomas Barton  in February 1836.  The witnesses to the marriage were Thomas and John Wright (brothers-in-law?).  Would like to find out Ann's maiden name before she became Ann Wright.  Can anyone help me please!?

Cheers Sheila

That is going to be a hard one with the Wrights
All I can think of is to check marriages of a Wright to an Ann .
See which one has brothers John and Thomas and is missing by 1841. Then see if you can find a burial for him ( hoping he didn't die at sea).
Might be easier if anyone has a one name extract book of Wrights.
I do have one somehwere but have just spent half an hour looking for it. So much for my tidying up    Put all my books in a box under the printer guess which one is mising. Yep that one .
Will have a look over the weekend see if it turns up and if I can see anything to help.

Thanks.  Have found Ann Wright married to a Henry Wright her maiden name was Robinson but her date of birth is at least 10 years out.  Will take your advice and see what I can find.  Ta Sheila

Is this Ann in 1861 census?

Ann Barton 65
Alice Wright 26
Ann Heyes 17
Source Citation: Class: RG9; Piece: 2762; Folio: 80; Page: 47;

In which case Alice could be
Baptisms: 30 Aug 1835 Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, North Meols, Lancashire, England
Alice Wright - Daughter of Henry Wright & Ann (Robinson)
   Born: 25 Jul 1835
   Abode: Southport
   Occupation: Fisher
Notes: Mother is the daughter of John and Alice Robinson
   Baptised by: Benjn Hudson
   Register: Baptisms 1827 - 1837, Page 15, Entry 85

BUT the only Henry age 30 Crossens down in the One Name  Registers as a burial was in 1831

We had a look at this one a year or so ago when Tom Tasker & I were looking at the Barton family. We gave up; even Joyce O does not have a maiden name.

Incidentally Sheila, I have just posted a problem regarding Thomas Barton's grandson Richard Ball which might interest you. As I found when I uploaded my tree to Ancestry your tree has a match on this family.

I have found my book and started to look about. going round in circles at the minute
That is a good find Yvonne . Think that needs looking at further.
the Henry who died in Crossens I have found his family ( I think 1841) so we can rule that marriage out I found his wife had a daughter shortly after his death and the family are together in 1841.
I think this Henry married Ann Hall in 1823.

think we can rule out the Henry Wright and Ann Robinson not just with the age you have found for her Shelia but I think they had chidlren after the marriage of Thomas and Ann. The one Yvonne found in 1861 which looks good is down as Burton in 1851.
didn't make it easy did they

Think you can rule out Peter and Ann as there does not seem to be a burial for a suitable Peter before 1836 marriage
