You may recall that it was Kathy (I think that is her name) who wrote recently to say what a grand crowd the NMFHS are. I am sure Jane's efforts will have reinforced her opinion.

People don't know the half of it, Ray. There are a lot of newbies out there who are struggling and the times that Jane and Seacop help the desperate are too numerous to mention.
A lady came to see us at the GRO on the 7th June. She had met them both at the library and wanted to say hello. Unfortunately, their day at the GRO was cancelled but I am passing her thanks on to them now.
And then you have Bez, who beavers away and comes up with the goods. The photograph of Joey's grave is just one small example.
Many thanks to the visitors who also share their information.

I wonder who that lady was Dotty? Yes Seacop & myself meet so many people. Only this last week we have been trying to help a lady over from Australia. She is Southport born but hasn't lived here for a long time.
I love the way either Bez or Baxter turn up on the forum with the photo of the right grave.
I have always found 99.9% of those doing genealogy are the helpful, friendly type. Maybe it's the kind of hobby that attracts these type of folk :grin:

Jane,
I was looking for Clara Green. Thank you so much for doing that search. We are still stumped as to why she ran away and left her young son, William Allan Gillies behind. William later married Ann (Nan) Wright but we have no idea what happened to him after his marriage. We also don't know what happened to Clara's husband, (William's father) John Gillies, who was originally from Wigan.

Ray is correct. The NMFHS crowd is grand and could not be improved upon. You have all been so generous and kind. I wish I had something to offer in return, so if anyone needs help across the pond, I'm available.
If you post a little more info on William or his father I could try and see if they were still in Southport. Um maybe a search in a local directory might show their name.

Thanks for the response.
* John Henry Gillies born 1882 (Dec 8c 30) Wigan.
He married Clara Green 1902 (Dec 8b 1329) Ormskirk.
*William Allan Gillies born 1904 (Mar 8b 885) to John Gillies and Clara Green Gillies. His birthday was actually 27 December 1903.
William Allan Gillies married Ann (Nan) Wright 1931 (Mar 8b 968) Ormskirk.
At one point, John Gillie's family is listed as living in Usjan, Lincolnshire, but on closer examination, it's just bad handwriting and is actually Wigan, Lancashire.
