I was wondering if anyone can help out. Many years ago i found a few Coronation medals in my grandmothers sewing box, she had no idea where they came form. Though i suspect they might of been my great-grandfathers.

Anyone know any history of "Coronation Medals", who they were issued and reasons why? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Edward VII coronation medallion

This is a 36mm silver coloured medallion which was designed by E. Fuchs and produced by Elkington.

"ELKINGTON" is cast on the bottom edge of the raised figures and may be difficult to see. The designers name "E Fuchs 1901" is just above King Edward's shoulder. It was unfortunate that the coronation did not take place on the 26th June 1902, due to the king's illness. Instead it was postponed until August 9th 1902.

i did an article in the society magazine about Southport's celebrations of the 1902 Coronation

Just put Coronation medals into Google. There are lots of sites but found this snippet

Coronation Medal 1902
This medal was issued in 1902 to commemorate the coronation of King Edward VII. The medal is 42 millimetres in height and 30 millimetres wide. It was issued in silver to members of the Royal family, foreign dignitaries, senior government officials and service officers involved in the parade. Selected NCOs and other ranks involved in the parade received the medal in bronze.

The medal's obverse side has a profile of King Edward VII and his wife Queen Alexandra, while the reverse side has the date of the coronation ceremony (26 June 1902) below the Royal Cipher.

The ribbon was dark blue with one central red stripe with white edges on either side.

I wonder about the inscription on the back - Charles Scarisbrick Major and Borough of Southport. Was someone some how connected with that.

Oh and that came from here - http://www.stephen-stratford.co.uk/coronation.htm

My grandmother had at least 2 of those medals - I used to play with them when I was little.
