Hello, i'm a newb to this, so i hope it all makes sense.

I am looking for anybody that may have any further information on the Dandy family of Southport/North Meols and the Howard family of North Meols/Southport.

So far I have a Margaret Dandy, born on: 4 April 1861 in Little London, North Meols, who married Samuel Rigby on 2 Jan 1886 in the Parish Church Of St. Paul, Southport.

Her mother was also Margaret Dandy (nee Howard) born 1826 in Southport she married James Dandy on 10 October 1854 in Trinty Church Southport, North Meols, all i know about her is her fathers name, James Howard, i don't have any dates or any other information about him.

All I have for James Dandy, born 1827 Southport/Huddersfield and is his father, Henry Dandy, again no dates or further information.

Confused I hope that someone out there can help me.

Thanks Rhiannon

p.s. I am in Australia so i am unable to go to local parishes and libraries to find information.

this has been said before - helping people by finding the right census is fine - BUT PLEASE can you then at least type something that makes sense.

This is what germaine put on her first email - but in a form that rigby will understand

1851 census - Snuttering Lane, North Meols

Head - James Howard - age 58 Farmer of 33 acres born North Meols
Wife - Hannah - 54 born North Meols
Son - James - 25 born North Meols
Dau - Margaret - 25 born North Meols
Dau - Ellen - 19 born North Meols
Dau - Mary - 16 born North Meols
Dau - Nancy - 14 born North Meols
Gson - Alfred Brierton - 7 Scholar born North Meols
Gdau - Hannah Howard - 5 Scholar born North Meols

Germaine then put this one -

1841 census - little london, North Meols
James Howard - 45 Farmer
Hannah - 45
Maragret - 15
James -12
Ellen - 10
Mary - 8
Nancy - 9

States all born this county - Lancshire

Remeber that the 1841 census doesn not give birth places, does not show relationship to head of the family and rounds ages down to the nearest 5

Finally welcome to the forum Rigby. If you have ancestry located in this area - obviously you have! - you may find it beneficial to join the society. You will find other members who not only share your family names but may also share a connection.

The Sandgrounder - which is the name of the society magazine - is sent quarterly and has a help wanted page and our secretary, Jane, is always happy to help members offering free research in the local reference library. This could be searching local directories, looking at old electoral registers or even finding a funeral report in the local paper - they are wonderful for information.

The info is great,

Thanks, for your help, your replies were super quick. Very Happy

That has helped to extend the family to 7 generations along the Howard line.

Just got another 15 lines to find! Shocked

Rhiannon

Good Luck Rhiannon I have found some Howard's creeping in but haven't got the info I need yet to see where they fit in. We may meet up again.

What good news. I used to spend hours and hours on family history but since the full time job...nowt or beggar all!

I guess it's swings and roundabouts...

Keep up the good work,

my dad grew up knowing Dandy's and most that I heard of in family conversations were from the Tarlton area with a few in Scarisbrick. I can only remember one dandy being spoken about in Marshside and that was Jim Dandy and he was a big pidgeon racer at the Bold. he and grandad were good friends. have you checked the lancashire bmd on line?

Am trying again Rhiannon to see if I can contact you. I am descended from one of Margaret's sisters and have information about James Dandy who married Magaret Howard. Hope to hear from you, Shirley USA
