Ellen BLUNDELL born about 1848

married Henry SPENCER 15 Feb 1873

at Primitive Methodist Chapel, London St, Southport (I have cert)

Father Thomas SPENCER, labourer on the cert.
Father John BLUNDELL, labourer on the cert.

Witnesses were Stephen JOHNSON and Elizabeth JOHNSON.

My question is this:  Who is Ellen's mother?  There are so many John Blundells and I think I have the wrong parents.

Any help would be much appreciated...

Dotty

Marriage was 15 Feb 1873 Southport (no church specified)
Daughter - Alice SPENCER c1875 North Meols
Daughter - Jenny SPENCER 19 JUL 1876 North Meols

Henry's parents were:
Father - Thomas SPENCER c1811-1861
Mother - Jenny HALSALL c1812-1881

Ellen's occupation in the various census was:

Thanks Bob, that looks to be them and Alice IS one of my options.  I am hoping that someone comes along and can say they have Ellen's birth cert which can confirm definitely that Alice Marshall is the one.

But your input is very much appreciated!  Maybe I should post on the Marshall thread too...

Thanks again

Probably my tree on Ancestry cousin Dotty. I have the marriage cert of John Blundell & Alice Marshall. . I have Henry's Spencer's birth certificate; unfortunately I do not have Ellen Blundell's birth certificate. I also have the death certs of Henry's parents, Thomas & Jenny.

Henry Spencer is a 1st cousin via his mother Jenny Halsall, my GGGG-aunt. Strangely, despite the abundance of Blundells in my line, I don't think Ellen is related except by her marriage to Henry!

Cheers
Brian

(PS I don't mind at all if it was my tree!)

(PPS there's an amusing thread over on the Merseyside Genealogy forum about the occupations "charwoman", "laundress" and above all "dressmaker". Suggests they were code for - erm - another common profession )

Hi Brian

I have sent you a PM and think I have a message from you that I haven't answered from July...how rude!

My line is through Thomas Rigby (son of Richard & Ellen Rigby) and Jenny Spencer (daughter of Henry Spencer and Ellen Blundell).
Jenny died in 1909 and Thomas then married Ann Ball in 1910.
Thomas and Ann had no children, as far as I know, so I am related through his first marriage.

Henry Spencer's father was Thomas Spencer and I have his wife as Jane Halsall.  Was she also known as Jenny?

Thank you for all your information it has helped me sort out the wheat from the chaff!

Regards

Dotty

I guess it was inevitable - had another thrash around the "Park" database; as a result Ellen Blundell is now a 6th (and 7th) cousin 2x removed in her own right. She is not (as far as I can tell so far    ) related to my direct Blundell line, but her family seems to tie into my Jacksons way back
Brian

(PS not sure how she gets to be only 2x removed when her hubby is 4x removed; a double generation slip somewhere)

*UPDATE* There's a problem with the 1851 Census which means that Ellen's father could not be the one currently listed on "Park". A short e-mail correspondence with Joyce to find that she had already spotted that and changed her database - the great news is that Ellen's father is now believed to by my GGG uncle John Blundell, son of William Blundell & Margery Barton; she is therefore my 1st cousin 3x removed
Am I happy or what!!

PPS Dotty this means we are (probably) related via both my Blundell AND Halsall lines

Hi Brian

Thanks for the updates.  I have the lurgy at present and am a little off my usual self.  I shall have to have another look at this line.

I shall soon be on Genes Reunited so I shall be able to interact with others researching my line...JL for one.

These names are so familiar to me know that when all is done I shall miss them...

TTFN

Dotty
