I guess it is kind of obvious but you can find relatives who didn't emigrate on the Ellis Island site. My G/F david Conway was a bricklayer who went to New York for the summer to lay bricks and I found him on the site.

Thank you for letting me know that.  I'm still trying to find out what happened to John Gillies, Clara Green's husband, and wonder if I might find he went to the US, even if temporarily.
