Again Edgar Craven jones. I was told he was gassed during the war but because he survived I can't find any details of his war service sadly.
I have no idea where this hospital was but I plan to take it into the reference library and compare with a book of photo's they have from St John's Hospital - The Grange.

Edgar is second on the left of the second row fron the back

Edgar again this time in Southport with The British Legion. This was taken inside Wayfarers arcade. He is sat on the front row first on the left

Wasn't The Grange down Roe Lane?

I thought it might have been - isn't somewhere there still called The Grange?

The pictures in the book in the library seem to be of those long war time huts. Inside it was just long rows of beds down either side. Must say some of the nurses looked stern. Its a shame there were no names. I shall have to ask if they have anything else on my next visit. I wonder if any books of say admission lists survived

The Grange Hospital was in a large house in Roe Lane and was 'donated' to the war effort to be used as a hospital by, I believe, the Fleetwood Hesketh family.   Southport Library (Reference Section) has got a lovely book (very fragile now) which is full of photographs of patients, staff, wards, etc.

You mean the book I mentioned in the first post....................

Just wish I could get copies of some of the photo's but the book is too old & fragile for that.

It probably is the same book Jane.   I know that photocopying of old documents is not good, but I wonder if they would be willing to have the pictures scanned so that copies can be obtained - or is that asking too much

Always worth asking but the photos seemed to be not stuck with glue but fixed if you know what i mean. Although I suppose they could copy the whole page. It is in a very delicate condition though - then again they may already have copies. I didn't ask.

Or you could ask if you could photograph them without using a flash.

The Grange was where Grange Road now meets Roe Lane.
