Any one know of a Betsey Hughes who in 1901 was widowed and lived in Chambers Road Southport with her children, Thomas, Isabel, Bessie, Dorothy and Constance,
It is Seed's Southport & District Directory, sixth edition 1914-15. Mine has been in the family since then, when my grandfather bought it for six shillings.
I would think that Southport Library would have a copy but not of much use if you live elsewhere.

Thanks Jane it would be great if you could find out more for me. The info I have is that Betsy aged 44 - living on own means - lived at 37 Chambers Road North Meols on the 1901 census. With her were Thomas, Isabel, Harry T, Bessie T, Dorothy B and Constance M. Also a Servant Elizabeth Hamer. In 1881 Betsy's husband was alive and they lived in Bolton with her father, a butcher and 3 servants.
I will if I can but - what exactly is it you want to find?
I can check local street directories and see when she left that address - might find her listed in the alphabetical list so can trace where she moves to.
There is also the electoral register but remember not all women got the vote until 1928 - and then only those over the age of 21
If you know a death date I can look in old newspapers to see if there is a funeral report

If you could check local street directories to see when she left that address and if possible where she moved to. Connection is more with her daughter Isabel and whether she was still living with Betsy in 1914-15. I presume the 1914-15 directory would state who is living in the house. Ta
Bob is right. The street directories only list head of house. The only way to find other adults is on electoral registers and most woman were not included because they didn't have a vote.
I will start 1901 and follow the address and let you know who lived there. If the family are still there in 1928 I shall look at the electoral register and see who was listed

All women over 21 have been able to vote in parliamentary elections in England since 1928. Some women had been eligible since 1918, but voting was limited to women who were over 30 years old and who were either householders or the wives of householders.
I know that I've found women voting in their own right as early as 1920 - very few admittedly, but if their husband's had disappeared during WW! many of them became householders so they are, possibly, listed - it's a reall pain trying to find women in the early days
