James Rymer ba. 7 Jan 1695 married Isabel Jump 10 Nov 1729.  The LDS family search website lists his father as Gilbert Rimmer born 1662 and his mother as Ann Johnson born 1663, although some of the entries do appear confused. However, I have recently acquired a copy of Families and Cottages of Old Birkdale and Ainsdale and in there James Rymer is shown as being the son of Robert of Blowick. Does anyone have any information to show who his father was?

According to the One Named Registers

James son of Gilbert was baptised 14th May 1694.

Thomas son of Robert Rymer of Lower Blow(ick?) baptised 7th Jan 1695

Have you had a look here?

There seems to be two Robert Rimmers around at the same time.
One married 18th Nov 1678 to Margery Breikell
The other married Jane Dobson 13th Jan 1679.

Later on in the registers one is Churchtown, the other Lower Blowick

But neither seems to have had a son named James, as far as I can see anyway, and the next James baptised wasn't until 1714, that's according to the One Named Register.

It is possible that you might find the 'missing' baptisms in another area, maybe Formby?   I got stuck with my Edward Rimmer (1785) and found him there
It may be worth looking further afield (pardon the pun) for early baptisms/marriages, I think they moved into this area as more land was reclaimed from the sea!

I have a James Rymer married Isabel Jump 10 Nov 1728  N.M.
and
Isabel Jump bapt 4 Apr 1707 dau of James and Mary Jump (ne Snape)

also a

James Rymer married Mary Boond  13 Nov  1713 at Croston
James Rymer b 1694 son of Gilbert and Ann Rymer (nee Johnson)

With so many common names in this area and too early for civil registration and census records I find it difficult to prove it

Many thanks for all the replies. I have recently sent up for some of the One Name Extract books, so I think when they arrive I will need to go through them carefully and correct the errors I may have made.

Just to ask another question rather than answer it...
Yvonne said "There seems to be two Robert Rimmers around at the same time.

The one married to MB is shown on IGI as son of Richard Rymer of the Hill. Can anyone tell me more or where The Hill is.

Thanks,

Mike
