Betty (1848) is on my list. Their son John (1872) was my great grandfather and moved to the Isle of Wight around 1900 where my grandfather, father and me were born. Would love to hear what info you have. Email david.linaker at whsmithnet.co.uk

Thanks

David Linaker

I have a Betty Linaker born circa 1844 in Banks who married Hugh Bond b Banks 1843. No father named on her marriage certificate of 1864. Their children were Ellen, George, John, Sarah, Isabella, William, Henry and Thomas all born in Banks. Any connection? Regards. :?:

David, John b 1874 is my great-grandfather also, this is amazing. He married Annie Jackson and one of their daughers Maggie is my grandmother. My mum was born Isle of Wight. Will be in touch. Cheers

Debs
Seems you may have found another cousin!

I'll leave it to you to contact David as this is your line and you know more about them than I do!

David
I'm connected to Debs but not as directly as you are. John was brother to my GGM, Jane Linaker.

You've missed a couple of children off Lyn. Paul in 1876, Margery in 1886, Hugh in 1888 and Robert in 1892.

On Rootsweb they seem to think Betty was Elizabeth Linaker, daughter of Nicholas & Elizabeth Linaker, but she always gives Betty as her name even on her (and Hugh's) gravestone in St Stephens. In the area Betty is considered a separate name, and not just short for Elizabeth although it was sometimes used that way.

Also I think Hugh would have called one of his sons Nicholas (after his father-in-law) as was the custom in those days. There is a Betty Linaker born about 1845 the daughter of William & Margaret Linaker (of Crossens & Hesketh Bank respectively) who lived in Banks after they were married. But in that case Hugh would probably have named a daughter Margaret after his mother-law, and he doesn't seem to have done. Here's the Census records and gravestone transcription for Hugh & Betty, just in case there's something you can use.

From North Meols Census 2nd April 1871, District 2, Page 13, Schedule no. 63
Guinea Hall Lane, Banks

Hugh Bond Head Mar 27 Agricultural Labourer born North Meols
Betty Bond Wife Mar 26 Labourers Wife
Ellen Bond Dau 4 Scholar
George Bond Son 3
John Bond Son 1

From North Meols Census 3rd April 1881, District 2, Pages 19 & 20, Schedule no. 106

Hugh Bond Head Mar 37 Farm Labourer born Banks
Betty Bond Wife Mar 36
Ellen Bond Dau 14
George Bond Son 13 Scholar
John Bond Son 11 Scholar
Isabella Bond Dau 9 Scholar
Sarah Bond Dau 7 Scholar
Wm Bond Son 6 Scholar
Paul Bond Son 4
Henry Bond Son 2
Thomas Bond Son 4 months

Fron North Meols Census 5th April 1891, District 2, Page 11, Schedule no. 72

Isabella Bond Dau S 19
Sarah Bond Dau S 17
William Bond Son 16 Farmers Son
Paul Bond Son 14
Henry Bond Son 13 Scholar
Thomas Bond Son 11 Scholar
Margery Bond Dau 4
Hugh Bond Son 3

From Tarleton Census 31st March 1901, District 6, Page 20, Schedule no. 101
Moss Side Lane, Banks

Elizabeth Bond Head Wid 54 Farmer - Employer working at home born North Meols
William Bond Son S 26 Labourer on farm - Worker at home
Paul Bond Son S 24 Labourer on farm - Worker at home
Henry Bond Son S 22 Horse man on farm - Worker at home
Thomas Bond Son S 20 Cattle man on farm - Worker at home
Margery Bond Dau S 15
Hugh Bond Son 13
Robert Bond Son 8
Elizabeth Smith G/Dau 7

NB Elizabeth Smith is probably the daughter of Lot Smith (deceased) and his wife Sarah (nee Bond).

From grave in St Stephens, Chruch Road, Banks, North Meols

In Loving Memory of
Hugh Bond
who died June 3rd 1900
Aged 55 Years
Also Betty Bond
who died April 30th 1927
Aged 82 Years
"My will be done."

Incidently Hugh was my 3rd great grandfather, my 1st cousin 5 times removed, and my 2nd cousin 4 times removed, as well as five or six more I won't bother you with. I'm a direct descendant (so far) of his sister Jane and his uncles William and George Bond. Banks is a small place, especially in those days.

Steve,

Thank you so much for all the information it feels as if it's Christmas! As others have said this forum is fantastic.

I have had real doubts about the rootsweb information on Betty's father and you have confirmed this for me although relatives in Utah have sent their information to me and feel it is correct I don't feel it is prudent to rely on it.

I have Betty's and Hugh's children as: Ellen 1867, George 1868, John 1870, Sarah 1872, Isabella 1873, William 1874, Paul 1877, Henry 1879 and Thomas 1881. My relationship to the family is through my grandmother Mary Smith. Her uncle Lot Smith married Sarah Bond the daughter of Betty Linaker and Hugh Bond, so I think I'm some sort of cousin many times removed. I have had contact with relatives in America regarding George Bond who emigrated on 17th August 1898 on the SS Lucania from Liverpool to New York and settled in Utah. He married Florina Gay in Richfield, Utah on 6.2.1905 and died in Richfield Utah on 20.3. 1937. As far as I am aware they had one child Mary Bond, born 22.10.1908 in Salt Lake City and died on 22.4.2000 in Gunnerson, San Pete, Utah.

Once again many thanks, I've got a lot of reading to do.

Best wishes,

Lyn

Steve,
I think that might be me on rootsweb, my gg grandfather Thomas Baker Linaker married a Betty Linaker ( I know, scary huh, but they are actually about 7th cousins twice removed ). I had orginally thought Betty was the daughter of Nicholas and Elizabeth but have since found that she is the daughter William and Margaret as you have said. I will endeavour to update on rootsweb.
Thanks Debs

Steve and Lyn,
Hmmmm....I think I might be a bit confused with all these Betty and Elizabeth's! So you are saying that your Betty is not daughter of Nicholas and Elizabeth, and is possibly daughter of William and Margaret, whom I thought mine was. I just rechecked mine and I have her as their daughter b 1844, but my Betty I have as daughter of Henry and Jane Wareing Betty being born in 1848. Will have to have another search into all of this.
Cheers Deb
