Parnel Southworth, Hugh Southworth and Alice Southworth were all illegitimate children of Elizabeth Southworth (my 4 great grandmother). Does anyone know of any bastardy orders associated with these?
(I know an Eliz. Southworth married Hugh Iddon in 1800. I've assumed it is the same person).
I am a little suspicious of the information on e.g. "Park" on this one.
I do believe that Iddon was the father of the three but not Hugh but John. The marriage was 31/01/1800. He was a mariner and over the preceeding ten years seems to have had time to "visit" his long term partner on at least three occasions but not the local vicar.
there are Parnells throughout the recent Southworth history and prior to that a Parnell Dobson, wife of a previous Hugh.
North Meols (Southport) FHS members can borrow items from the society library which has a copy of "Poor Law Administration in the 18th Century" by Rideout and which includes transcriptions of bastardy orders.
Southport library used to have a book in the reference section called "North Meols Bastardy Orders" by John Bray, but when I asked for it last year the staff couldn't find it and now it has disappeared from the library catalogue. As this was most likely an A4 booklet, it cannot be replaced.
As Jane has already said, Lancashire Record Office has bastardy orders and the names can be verified from the Record Office online catalogue.

Now I'm confused because according to the records for St Michael and All Angels, Croston (On Line Parish Clerk), Elizabeth Southworth married HUGH Idden, the mariner, on 14/7/1800. Where does 31/1/1800 come from?
1. There are 2 couples with the same names. Not unheard of, and often marrying at the same church.
2. It might be the same couple if one of them was from Croston originally - they might just have decided to have a second ceremony in the other parish. Not as likely, but possible.
