I have a Leatherbarrow connection in my tree. Margaret Gregson b 1865, my grrandfather's sister, married Robert Leatherbarrow, b 28 Feb 1862, in 1890. She died 18 May 1930, he died 1932. They lived at 5 Chase Heys, Churchtown. They had 2 sons Robert b Aug 1886, d Apr1887 & William b Feb 1892, d Nov 1892
I do not have anything more on Robert senior, any further into would be appreciated.
Well, we are talking about the same Robert Leatherbarrow, but he didn't die in 1932.
He married my grandmother's sister Elizabeth Williams on 12th January 1935. She lived at 2 Chase Heys and had done since about 1910 so far as I can tell at the moment. Certainly her mother lived at that address from about that time.
Robert was 66 at the time of his 2nd marriage and Elizabeth was 44. He died on the 9th January 1953 aged 84 (giving a birth year of circa 1869). Elizabeth died on the 16th February 1971 aged 81.
There were no children from his 2nd marriage - the 2 children buried at St Cuthbert's are:
William buried 28th November 1892 aged 9 months.
Herbert buried 10th April 1897 aged 8 months.
There were no other children - when Elizabeth died her death was registered by Joshua Mawdsley who was Robert's nephew.

Thanks Bez for that info, I will have to check my source for the dates of Robert's birth & death, also the name of the second son. I believe these details came from within the family.
Was it a second marriage for Elizabeth? Seed's Southport 1914-15 Directory shows Mrs Matilda Howard living at 2 Chase Heys.
Elizabeth was a spinster according to the register although she had had a sweetheart by the name of Jim (I have a photo of her with him) but I don't know his full name or anything about him.
It may not have been number 2 Chase Heys all the time - I will have to check the directories myself - her stepfather was named Middleton.
Robert was still living at number 5 when he died in 1953 and I assume that was where I used to visit her when I was a child. I remember that I went down the steps and it was on the right. Inside the obligatory little "mind your head" notices hung from every doorway which didn't prevent me from banging my head on the doorframes when I was tall enough.

I have found the source of my error in the dates for birth of Robert’s younger son. It is in a tree handwritten by my brother several years ago. He shows his birth as 1886 & death as 7th April 1897, age 8 months. I obviously recorded 1886 as his birth and added 8 months to get 1887 as his death, without questioning which of the dates was incorrect. I still have more digging to see how we arrived the name of Robert for this son and his father Robert’s, “death” in 1932.
I cannot recall visiting No 5, Auntie Maggie died the year before I was born however I do remember the row of thatched cottages. In 1914 William Middleton lived at number 3.
We have strayed from the original thread of Richard Wright & Nancy Leatherbarrow, would it be more appropriate to continue in a new topic “Robert Leatherbarrow”?
People did move around somewhat - I think my gt grandmother and her second husband eventually moved to Milton St but gt Auntie Liz obviously remained in Chase Heys.

I did look at the street directories last year - I was looking for a number of people, one of whom was William Middleton. I need to go back to the library soon I think and do some more checking.

On the 1901 census Robert Leatherbarrow b Scarisbrick, was age 33, his wife Margaret, b Churchtown was 35. They were living at 5 Chase Heys, which was shown to have 4 rooms. RG13/3536, folio 95, page 24.
This gives a birth date of abt 1868 for Robert, which is in line with the date of circa 1869, given earlier by Bez calculated from his age at the time of his death.
I have now received birth & death certificates for William & Herbert. I was particularly interested in the cause of death of the two brothers, both being about the same age at time of death.
William, born 23 Feb 1892, died 24 Nov 1892, age 9 months. Cause of death Tubercular Meningitis.
Herbert, born 3 Aug 1896, died, 7 April 1897, age 8 months. Cause of death Teething Convulsions, 4 days.
Thank you for that information - it is much appreciated. I have often wondered why there were no other children from that marriage - she was young enough at the time to have had more.

Do not know if they are related to you but I have just come back from the Cemetery (was visting a grave to find out death dates) and these two caught my eye along with a Mawdsley headstone that I have posted under M.
