I was idly reading through the interesting members stories (as one does) when a couple of names caught my attention. Big bells rang! James Kellet and Ellen (Halsall) (page 10)
So I don't know if you read these forums, George of Wisbech, but I will be writing to you on Monday! For Ellen's brother Thomas is my gt-gt-grandfather. Referring to my little chart (as I am hopeless at this "cousin" thing) I think you are my 2nd cousin once removed!
Jane - you have already contributed to this story!!
Thomas' daughter (also Ellen) married Nathan Jackson (ie my gt-grandparents). He fell off Southport pier and died one night while drunk. You very kindly found the Visiter reports of his death and inquest!!
I will be in Southport in a couple of weeks time, for my mum's 80th (although she is not of my Southport connections). I intend retracing gt-grandad Nathan's final steps (well not all of them obviously!) That is if I can drag my wife and daughter away from Lord Street!

Don't you just love it when it all comes together! Presumably there is a visit to the graveyard in this one? If we (Jane and/or I) find the grave beforehand it could save some time - unless the whereabouts are already known?

Thank you for the kind offer. A visit to the graveyard is certainly on my "wish-list"; although as we are travelling up on the Saturday and back home on Sunday, having "done" the Walker Art Gallery and Lord Street shopping, I'm not sure exactly how or when I can fit it in. There are plenty of graves to be found; Nathan (1908), his wife Ellen (1916); Ellen's parent's Thomas (as above) and Margery (dates not known), and many more!
He is at the moment in the middle of moving back uo to Lancashire, and all his stuff is packed up and sent on ahead, so it will be some time before we can compare research and confirm our kinship!.
I have also recently been in contact with Joyce Otterstrom over in Salt Lake City, whose "Park" database on Rootsweb & Ancestry has provided much valuable research on my line. (I think Joyce and I may be 5th or 6th cousins)

I think I have now cracked this one! I will put a quick note up on the "Halsall" thread that I started long ago further up the forum. And I will try to write up a story for the mag!

PS We did get to Southport over the weekend but were so pushed for time that only managed a quick drive round Churchtown on Sunday morning (& the weather was not really up to a walk !) It must be 40 years since I was last year and I honestly had no recollection of the place at all!!

I have now had contact with 4 previously unknown living relatives based on the ancestors or descendants of this family! (and a couple more possibles!)
