Is there any way I can find out the baptism date of Jane Sawyer who married Robert Wright 26th Apirl 1836.
I thought there was a One Named Parish Register for Sawyer in the Southport Library, but when I went today there wasn't one.

The library does have transcripts in book form for the Parish Registers (St Cuthbert's). They go up to July 1837 which is when civil registration was introduced, so you would be able to look up the marriage as it was before this date - what you can't do is get a marriage certificate. Lots of entries for this period give the ages of the bride and groom which would give you a rough idea of when to look for a baptism.

Alternatively our Society members who live locally can borrow microfiche copies of the registers plus a fiche reader from our own Society library. These fiches go up to 1920 for some of the registers.

Hi Yvonne

I am a Sawyer and have traced my family back to North Meols (my great-great-great grandad, Roger was born there in 1897). Just wondering if you are a Sawyer too?
Thanks

We have a link to Sawyers through my Hodges. My great grandfather, John Hodge was an in-law to them and he first rented his house in Linaker St from them before buying it (the house was in our family from about 1914 until my grandmother's death in 2000).

I did recently trace back to the first Sawyers in North Meols, but my stepson turned off my PC before I'd saved the update to the tre... so I will have to redo it sometime... but I wanted to relate a Sawyer story to anyone with a link.

Our family tale is that the first Sawyer was from Preston, and was indentured as an apprentice to a particularly cruel master so he ran away. He followed the coast down to Birkdale and obtained work on a farm there. When the farmer died, sawyer married his widow and acquired the land from where he sired the local Sawyer dynasty!

I think it's possible this first Sawyer was Thomas, who married Ellen (Balshaw?). Children of Thomas and Ellen were born from 1754 (one child, Thomas, is not ;isted in baptisms but clearly is a 3rd child, as his children are named after his parents).
