It is a wonderful book; I found my great-uncle Matthew Howard listed in it! I knew he'd died in September 1916 but couldn't find a Matthew Howard of Southport on the CWGC site or the Soldiers Died.....CD-Rom and this book explained why I couldn't find him anywhere - he had emigrated to Canada and was with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces and died at Vimy Ridge and was, of course, not Matthew Howard of Southport! Does it list all Southport-born men who died in both World Wars or only WW1 - I keep forgetting to check when I go into Southport Library?

hi brian,
could i please take you up on your kind offer.
i know my great uncle is in it,does it have pictures of the people?
his name is
GILBERT DRYSDALE RANDLE
he was lost at sea off the H.M.H.S Britannic oct 23rd 1916 just before it sank on nov 21st 1916 after going into a mine field.
Hi Mary
The SSH has the Southport Visiter article for Gilbert Drysdale Randle. It does not have a picture; however it does mention that the actual Visiter article includes a photo (22/11/1915, page 10, column 4)
I can send you what is in SSH (PM me your e-mail address) but if you want the photo as well then someone needs to go to Southport library
Brian
