I have got a copy of this book - details of Southport men who died in WW1.

Happy to do lookups.

Such a sad book, can barely open it without tears welling up

Brian

It is a wonderful book; I found my great-uncle Matthew Howard listed in it! I knew he'd died in September 1916 but couldn't find a Matthew Howard of Southport on the CWGC site or the Soldiers Died.....CD-Rom and this book explained why I couldn't find him anywhere - he had emigrated to Canada and was with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces and died at Vimy Ridge and was, of course, not Matthew Howard of Southport! Does it list all Southport-born men who died in both World Wars or only WW1 - I keep forgetting to check when I go into Southport Library?

It's just WW1 - I think it also has some men who were not Southport born but who enlisted in the area. I have one relative in there so far

Hi Mary
The SSH has the Southport Visiter article for Gilbert Drysdale Randle. It does not have a picture; however it does mention that the actual Visiter article includes a photo (22/11/1915, page 10, column 4)

I can send you what is in SSH (PM me your e-mail address) but if you want the photo as well then someone needs to go to Southport library
Brian
