Hi,

I'm looking for more information on my 3xGt Grandparents Samuel and Sarah Taylor. They had ten children between 1832 and 1845, most of whom were baptised in Manchester Cathedral. I can't find them in 1841 but by 1851 they were at Churchtown, Brookfields, North Meols where Sarah is listed as a widow and as a "Proprietor of Houses and Land". Sarah was born in abt. 1806 in Kendal, Cumbria but I have no birth record for Samuel.
I have no marriage for them or a burial for Samuel which must have been between 1845 and 1851.

They had twin daughters Harriet and Lucy who married brothers Walter and Dashper Glynn, both sisters sadly died in their 30's.

I would love to hear from anyone who has anything on this family.

Very many thanks,

Peter.

Hello and welcome to our website and forum, Peter.

Could you give us information on who was on the census with them please?  I'm sure it would help.

Good hunting

Dotty

Hi Dotty,

In 1851 it was Sarah Taylor, 45, widow and six of her children Sarah Ann, 19; Harriet and Lucy, twins of 11; Emma, 9; Arthur, 6; and Annabella, 5, all listed as "At home", also Sarah Swelson a 74 year old Annuitant as a visitor and Hannah Gerner a 33 year old cook. Her four other children, all boys, were away at boarding schools.

Sarah was born in Kendal, Cumbria (although in 1861 she gives Burton, Westmorland), the children all in Manchester, Sarah Swelson in Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria and Hannah in Cheshire.

By 1861 Sarah was in Great Crosby, Lancashire at the home of her son David and with her daughter Emma.

Any help?

Many thanks,

Peter.

Had a quick look at the Hugh Wallis site:

Baptism : Burton in Kendal : 23.05.1832
Sarah Ann, daughter of George and Sarah Taylor

Have't found any of the other children yet nor a marriage for George Taylor and Sarah?

Another snippet:

1841 Census : Township of Sutton (Runcorn, Cheshire)
Sarah Snelson (50) Ind
Harriett Taylor (1)
Lucy Taylor (1)
Catherine Wilson (15)
Elizabeth Pover (14)

Sarah Snelson seems to have aged quite a bit in the following 10 years

Many thanks for those pieces of information, I hadn't found Lucy and Harriett in 1841 previously.

I'm not sure about the birth for Sarah Ann, even though her mother was born there, she always gives her place of birth as Manchester in later censuses and the father should be Samuel. I may have to visit the local record office to make sure.

Many thanks again,

Peter.
