North Meols was a fairly dissolute place until the late 1790's, early 1800's. Taking of the waters - that is bathing in the sea - was often prescribed as beneficial so lots more people started visiting and settling in the area.
Have you thought of joining the local society? You would find a lot of help with not only tracing your family history but also local history. I see you live out of town and members do get some free research offered.
I think most local families had a Rimmer somewhere in their line. A very well known local name. Seacop is the one to help there
