Hi I am the lady who gave you the post card. My grandmother Martha Woodroofe would have written this to one of her Aunts, her mother Margarets sister in law. Marthas father moved to Southport due to his poor health (according to his obtituary) in I think 1898 from Manchester. Martha was born at the family home in Windsor Road, Southport in 1900. Her father Walter passed away before her first birthday. The family at some point moved to Oak Street, Southport. Would anyone know which schools where in this area and are there any records. Would love to find out more about Marthas life in Southport. By 1920 Martha had married giving her age as 21 and moved with her husband Walter Aspey to Standish.
The Woodroofe name orginates from Hope, in Derbyshire, where the family were once keepers of the kings hunting forests.

The Seed's Southport 1914-15 Directory lists the following:
Mrs Emma Woodroofe, apts, 38 West St
Lawrence R Woodroofe, cabinet maker, 43 Hart St
Mrs Margaret Woodroofe, , 5 Oak St.
There is also a Woodroof, without an e
Fredk. B Woodroof, 39 Leyland Rd and his place of business:
FB Woodroof & Co, ship owners, 16a Hoghton St
Hope this helps

I did have Margarets info from one of the directories. this is Marthas mother. I managed a quick visit to Southport library a few years ago, Will see what the 1901 census comes up with on the others.
