Todd Family

My grandads side of the family are the Todd family, which seem to have come from North Meols.

My grandad is George william hocknell Todd born 1918 in manchester to a Margaret Todd - father unknown(along with Hocknell unknown).

His mother Margaret Todd was born in scarisbrick in 1894 to a James Edwin Todd(birth 1871 - scarisbrick) and a caroline wilson(birth 1874 - scarisbrick) - though she was brought up by her grandmother elizabeth wilson. She wed james arthur nield in manchester in 1920, but never had anymore children, she died in manchester in 1954.

James Edwin Todd(1871) was the son of Henry Todd(birth 1834 north meols and died 1912 at 202 portland street, southport) and Margaret Twist(birth 1836 North Meols). They had 4 other children, charles, john, rosanna, and Richard.

Henry was a farmer who lived at Ash farm, ash lane and salthouse farm, trap lane.

Henry's dad was John Todd (1798 - 1887 both north meols), mother was Betty Howard(i presume Elizabeth) - born and died in north meols(1798 - 1861)

Johns dad was John todd(1726 - 1808) both north meols, and his mother was Margery Rymer(1733 usa - 1775 north meols).

Johns dad was John Todd(1694 - 1754) and his mother was Jane Halsall(1700 - 1751) both of them born and died in north meols.

This is all the information that i have and was hoping someone might be able to help with any information about the family, i hope the information is easy to understand.

No she was the daughter of william twist and martha Todd, but i do have some sumner family in my tree.

Thanks for the rootsweb site, i have checked them out.

Thanks i only had margarets birth down as an estimate from the census's.

Just wish i could find out some more info regarding margaret todd(1894 - 1954) just that my grandad was born without father on the birth cert, but his name in the birth records is down twice, once as george william todd and then again the same day it was registered as george william hocknell todd(information from the birth registry in manchester many years ago). The letter also states that his mother was Margaret todd but grandad is william hocknell - but i'm not sure how the two match up.

I am also researching the Todd line. My ancestor Richard Todd is the brother of Henry Todd, both sons of John Todd and Betty Howard. I have information on Richard's family if you are interested. Richard and Henry had a sister Margery, do you know if there were more siblings. I am looking for more details on John Todd and Margery Rymer. My grandfater had said that the first John Todd on our line to live in North Meols was from Scotland but I have yet to trace him.

I only have henry as having two siblings, Richard and Margery - margery was born around 1830 but thats all the info apart from the 1841 and 1851 census that i have on her.

John todd and margery rymer married on 29th jan 1752, they had 9 children, johns parents were john todd(1694 - 1754) and jane halsall(1700 - 1751).
Margerys parents were john rymer and Jenet(sorry no last name).

let me know what other info you want.

Stacy: I would be interested in the names of John Todd's and Margery Rymer's nine children if you had them. One thing I am not sure about in the first post is the death date of Margery Rymer. If I am reading it correctly it looks like she died 1775 but her son John Todd wasn't born til 1798. My ancestor Richard Todd married Jane Twist whose father was Thomas. They had my great-grandfather Richard Todd who married Sarah Wareing. Sarah had my grandfather Richard Todd who married Mary Barton. They were all born and died in Southport. Where did you find the information for John Todd and Jane Halsall. I only have access to the census here and haven't been able to get back that far. Thanks for your help.

sorry for the confusion i missed a family.

John Todd(1726 - 1808) married margery Rymer(1733 - 1775) and they had 9 children who were:-

Jane Todd (1752 - 1767)
Jennet Todd (1754 - 1810)
John Todd(1756 - 1840) - He married mary harrison
Thomas Todd(1757 - 1836)
Robert Todd(1759 - 1829)
Mary Todd(1761 - 1797)
Anne Todd(1764 - 1829)
Henry Todd(1766 - 1848)
Jane Todd(1770 - no death date)

Then Henry Todd (1766 - 1848) married Elizabeth Wignall in 1810 and they had John Todd(1798 - 1887). I don't have any other children at the moment, but to be honest i have been concentrating on james edwin todd and caroline wilson the most recently.

I got jane halsall from someone else who is researching the same family and she gave me some information on the family.

Thanks for the names and dates of the children of John Todd and Margery Rymer. I have been doing work on this line for many years and was unable to go back any further. I appreciate your help.
