'the parish church'Probably an obvious thing for most of you, but not for me! so advice needed.
If a certificate (c1850) states 'at the parish church' North Meols, Southport etc, which church does it mean? ( I am collecting a few which say this!)-
I can't see a pattern re either place or affiliation to a particular church? Was there one church 'known' as the parish church? (have looked in the church section here) not sure if there was an official 'parish' church? I don't know how this works.
Thanks yet again

I've been asked this before and knew I'd seen something on the Internet - it was on Southport GB.
I would say St Cuthbert's Church in Churchtown
But read the thread and see what others say - http://www.southportforums.com/fo...highlight=southport+parish+church

I'm no expert but think Jane is right .
This is a good link to records at St. Cuthberts.

I have never had any doubt about it being St Cuthbert's but it was nice to look on the SouthportGB thread and see the historical references and the explanation about the Deanery as well.
Christ Church was the first church in Southport itself, but it started out as a Chapel-of-ease to St Cuthbert's for the convenience of the visitors so that they didn't need to trek to Churchtown.
