19th Century British Newspapers free trialThere's a very interesting free (time limited) trial of the British Library database of 19th Century newspapers:
http://access.gale.com/gdctrial/ to register. From various mailing lists it seems you can get away with "none" in the Institution box.
Unfortunately the Southport Visiter is not there but the Liverpool Mercury and Preston Chronicle / Guardian are, and they do cover quite a bit of Southport news.
I have found quite a few articles on various Liverpool rellies; and a couple of real gold nuggets among the small ads placed by a Mr Green of Ainsdale, as Ray Green will confirm!!
Don't know how long the trial lasts but makes fascinating reading. Be prepared to waste some serious time browsing

Gimmee more....How cruel of you to tantalize us with gossip...
Thanks for the info it sounds very good. I have a great grandmother who died very young in Liverpool and left 4 young children, maybe there will be something there about her...

Just to let anyone that doesn't know.
When your free trial runs out just go back and register again and there you go another free trial.
I found lots of snippets.
Have fun
