Ackers

I received a marriage certificate today, but it has me puzzled.

Elizabeth Ackers age 28 of 164 Milton St. Father Hugh Ackers. Witness Richard Ackers

Living at 164 Milton St in 1901 was John Ackers and his wife Alice (probably Cropper)

Elizabeth in 1881 was living with grandparents Richard and Alice Howard.
In 1891 she was living with aunt and uncle George and Ellen Langton nee Howard
1901 with cousin Ellen Sutton nee Howard.

Evan Ackers married Ann Howard and in 1871 Ann is with two boys John and Richard and she went on to have Elizabeth and Louisa. I haven't confirmed it yet but I think Ann died 1880 and the children were split up among family members. Evan seems to have disapeared off the face of the earth after 1871 census , down as Avah Ackers living in Kirkdale.

1881 census there is no Hugh Ackers that I can find living in and around North Meols.

Has anyone got any information about the Ackers from Scarisbrick. Evan's parents were John and Margaret but I can see no son called Hugh, has anyone c0me across a Hugh?

There is another Elizabeth born around the time Sept qtr 1876 but there is also a death Sept 1876.

Ackers

We have had a thread about an Ackers before because I remember saying I worked with a woman called Ackers...unfortunately her name escapes me this evening but I will put it on the back boiler and it will come to me.

Just 2 questions:  Who did Elizabeth Ackers marry and in what year?

Margaret Ackers was the lady's name.  She worked at Mullards in the 1960s in the purchasing dept.

Ask me another...

Elizabeth married William Johnson, widower, in 1904. I think his previous wife was Mary Ann Wright, daughter of Henry and Mary. William and Mary married 1899 I think, had a daughter Mary Ann and both his wife and child died around 1902.
William was the son of William Johnson , Blacksmith

Yes Dotty there was a previous mention of Evan, he was a witness at Seacop's gt grandparents?

So you think Elizabeth made the name up? If she was illegitimate she may have done.

Seacop will be back next week so might know more about the Ackers if she's found a family connection.

Hello Yvonne

I can confirm Ann Ackers (nee Howard) died 29th July 1880, and her parents where Richard and Alice Howard.

Yvonne

Many thanks for that Steve
Bez

There are 10 people by the name of Ackers buried at St Cuthbert's (since 1838) - but no Hugh.
