Adelaide GilbertI am searching for information about Adelaide Gilbert and her daughter who was a housekeeper for my grandfather circa 1925-1949. They lived at 24 Albert Rd. I believe her daughter would have been born around 1916. Adelaide Gilbert's name is on my grandfather, Louis Lever's tombstone in Southport cemetery.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

As this is post 1901 Census you may have to look in the Southport Street Directories - if you can't get into Southport Library let us know and maybe when we're in there we can take a look for you?

I am curious myself over this. I know I am being very nosey here, but why is the housekeeper mentioned on your grandfather's tombstone?
I worked at no. 20 Albert Road for 12 years and they are/were lovely buildings and very spacious. Sadly no. 20 was torn down a couple of years ago and flats built on the site and no. 24 was converted to residential accommodation if my memory serves me right.

Mother has a family grave and there is the name of a servant on the headstone. She knows it's a servant from previous census returns.
Maybe they became like close family members, maybe the circumstances of their death may help. Or maybe we shall never know - like so many of these family mysteries

Adelaide GilbertAs I am in Canada, I am unable right now to visit the Southport library. I have implied to my father that Adelaide must have been "more than a housekeeper," and he has assured me she wasn't. I am wondering if Adelaide could have possibly been a sister of my grandfather, Louis Lever. She was widowed, divorced or a single mother as she also had a daughter living with her. I would love to know more of the story. Apparently Adelaide also inherited a great deal of Louis' estate, which I will be able to better determine when I recieve a copy of his will. Hopefully there will be some reference to an address for her or her daughter as well. Thanks!
