Bequests in willsI've just been looking at a will where the named children are left bequests. However, one of the sons does not appear even though he was alive when his father died - any ideas why he might have been left out? Also is it reasonable to assume that other children who are not named had probably died before their father? Also two of the married daughters (alive when their father died) were left out of the will - is this usual?
Any suggestions welcome
Thanks

There could have been a disagreement.
When it comes to girls I think they were seen as belonging to their husband so it was up to them to provide for the woman.
I have a will and out of 6 children everything was left to a son-in-law. Can only assume he needed the tools & clothes (no money) more than the other children.

Sometimes married daughters were left out because they had already had their "portion" when they married - this also applied to sons as well, of course.

I have my grandfather's will (made in the early 1950's) and everything was left to his four sons - and nowt to the three girls

ThanksThanks for your suggestions folks. Strange because one married daughter did get a bequest and three of the sons were married as well! I'm leaning towards some sort of disagreement.... but I guess it will always be just that - a guess.
