Births, deaths, marriages - Lancs BMDI thought I'd start a post about these from a conversation on the Rimmer section.
Obviously we all know we can use FreeBMD to search for births, deaths & marriages. These are being added to constantly by volunteer transcribers. I like the way you can look for the other marriage partner. I know sometimes there are quite a few possibles listed but with the help of census it is often possible to work out who the right one is.
Then there is Lancashire BMD. Another useful site for this area. It is here if you haven't come across it before -

Maybe you know of others that may help us locate the right certificate.

I know I've mentioned it in the past (more than once) but obviously not on the forum.
The really brilliant thing is that it gives an alternative surname if a widow remarries. eg. you can look both under her maiden name or her previous married name - the surname has a little asterisk beside it to tell you there is an alternative - just follow the instructions. This is how I "found" my Martha Rimmer again (the one who was widowed and got a payment from the Marshside Calamity Fund). She is the one who remarried at the Fisherman's Chapel in Hawkshead Street.
