burial grounds in liverpoolHelp Please. My G Grandfather drowned while diving in Salthouse dockin Liverpool, 24th sept 1881. His address was Warwick st, toxteth park. Iam trying to find his burial plot,and which Cemetary, I have been to Liverpool library, but found nothing. After reading some of the excellent Posts, I wondered if anyone knows of any Web Sites that could help me find Buriel Details Thanks from Rummycub

Sorry you didn't find what you were searching for; just a thought (and I don't know if it wil wokr) - try ringing the Liverpool Crematorium (don't know where it is) and see if they have the burial registers for the whole of Liverpool? (I know that Southport Crematorium hold the registers for all the 'public' cemeteries in Sefton).
As you know the exact date of death it might be worth looking up the Liverpool newspapers first as they might give an indication where the funeral was held - might even be a churchyard rather than a cemetery? |

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that records for ALL burials in Liverpool are held at the Liverpool Cemeteries Office in Allerton, who offer a search facility for a fee of £10.

The Liverpool Record Office has all the Liverpool cemetery records on microfilm. I had a productive day going through them last year. I suggest you try the General (non-consecrated) Burial Register for Toxteth Park Cemetery for 1881 (Ref 352 CEM/9/2/3). Most of the burials recorded on the www.toxtethparkcemetery...etc website so far are burials in consecrated ground. A complete list of all the registers held and the covering years can be obtained by searching the online catalogue of the record office.
It would also be worth checking the microfilm copies of the Liverpool Newspapers also held there. If there was an inquest it would probably have been reported. Unfortunately the coroner's records at the record office do not seem to go back that far. It is necessary to book a microfilm reader beforehand Hope this helps Roger |

Burials in the unconsecrated part of Toxteth Park Cemetery in 1881 are on-line at :-

If a precise place of burial isn't known then you really need an Alphabetical name index, which is where (I think) the search facility offered by the Cemeteries Office in Allerton might come into its own, even if it does cost £10. Got to be worth a quick telephone call or e-mail to them to confirm whether or not this is feasible, anyway? It isn't actually essential to book a microfilm reader before visiting the Liverpool Record Office, although it certainly makes sense to do so if you're travelling some distance. I've been dropping in off-the-street as it were for the last five years or so and have never yet been disappointed. |

Errr...I don't want to spoil the fun but I know that people didn't always get buried. An old work colleague had a grandfather who had his body donated to a Liverpool teaching hospital. It was very forward thinking for the time...Thanks for the Liverpool burials link as my friend cannot find her grandparents burials so I will be passing this info on! Good hunting Rummycub...
