Burial register St CuthbertsHello
I have burial register and LDS records for several of my ancestors recorded to St Cuthberts, North Meols. Their abodes at death are shown as Churchtown, Crossens, Banks and Marshside. Does anyone know from research if people would have been buried in their local areas or was the cemetery in the same area as the church? The dates range from 1600's to 1800's

At that time it was the only place for burials in North Meols. So it will include people who lived in all of the local areas - Churchtown, Crossens, Banks and Marshside
The main cemetery - known as Duke Street or Southport Cemetery didn't open until 1866
And the other one - Birkdale - was opened in 1903
Before that there was Christ Church in the centre of town. The first burial there was 1 May 1822
Holy Trinity - another church yard near town - 12 June 1838
I am assuming you don't live in Southport?

Burial register St CuthbertsThanks Jane for your reply, so was/is the graveyard adjoining the church? I live Queensland Australia, my father, grandfather, g/grandfather then gg/grandparents etc. all born Southport or North Meols hence my interest. I hope one day to visit the areas they lived.

St Cuthbert's graves are next to the church. It is quite a large graveyard.
The society is in the process of transcribing the headstones but it is a long job.
Have you thought about joining the society? You could maybe get more help to find graves. members receive a magazine 4 times a year which has a help wanted page. I also offer to do some free research for our members.
If you have a look on something like Google maps I'm sure you will spot the church and surrounding area
