Charles Arthur Braddock b.1846, Adlington, Cheshire

I am interested in information on the above Charles Braddock. He arrived with his family in Southport in 1879/80 and lived at 40, Hampton Road, Southport until 1886. From 1886 to 1893 the family lived at "The Elms", 23 Park Crescent, Hesketh Park,Southport.

Charles is described as a Railway Contractor with an office at 4,Kensington Road, Southport. He had served his time as a Stonemason.

Whilst at Park Crescent his son John aged 14 in 1887 was described as an Apprentice Civil Engineer.

I am wondering when Chapel St. Station and the lines leading from there were constructed and whether Charles had any involvement ?

There is a section about Southport Past

02.04.1849 The Liverpool, Ormskirk and Preston Railway opened; coaches ran between Southport and Ormskirk to connect with the trains.
01.10.1850 the Liverpool, Crosby and Southport Railway completed to Sandhills (but trains could go direct to Liverpool)
09.04.1855 The Southport and Manchester Railway opened, with a Burscough to Liverpool, Ormskirk and Preston line. The next day the first accident happened on the new line, an engine came off the rails at New Lane Station. Southport to Ormskirk coach service discontinued.
March 1856 because of the competition between the varying Railway Companies there was price cutting - but by May the companies came to an agreement about fares!
February 1884 The Liverpool, Southport and Preston Junction railway promoted; this is a line connecting the West Lancashire and the Southport & Cheshire Lines Extension Railways.

Hope this helps - the above was taken from the Annals of Southport
