Crown Green Bowling in SouthportAnyone know when this first started in Southport ? What was the name of the first club? Are there any records of members and club champions around beginning / end of twentieth century ?

You might have some luck posting this on SGB - Southport.GB
They have a Southport Past forum and I know at least one person who is involved with bowls now
Of course old newspapers may have something in - they had sports pages like today but knowing when the club you want is mentioned.........bit like that needle & haystack. And the really old papers - say pre 1900 didn't contain much at all.
I can see you spending lots of time in the reference library when you get here :grin:
