Dickinson (Dickenson) marriage to RobinsonHi,I am searching for connections to my paternal grandparents..... & drawing a blank on my grandfathers side, so would appreciate any assistance (I'm new to this) Info as I have it so far: Grandmother - Margaret Dickinson (Dickenson) DOB 10/6/1909 (Formby/Altcar) Grandfather - Harold Robinson - DOB 6/8/1903 (Prescot, Liverpool) Married - 20/2/1934 Addresses on certificate - Margaret: Altcar View, Flaxfield Rd, Formby. Harold: College Ave, Formby. Margaret: Father - Samuel Dickenson c1888 married Annie Bond c1874 married 21/5/1897 at St Johns, Liverpool (both from 42 Crown St) Annie Bond - fatherJohn Bond c1847 & Mother Margaret Bond (nee Rimmer) dob 14/11/49 Samuel: Father - Henry Hoyles Dickinson c1835 married Ellenor Lord (Bury) 03/1864 I know what happened to my grandmother.... but no trace of grandfather beyond birth! I know that Harold was one of possibly 5 children (Harold, Thomas, Richard, ?Robert +1 other). There father was also Thomas ?c1868. Richard married Kay & had a daughter Pauline. Thomas (jr) married Elsie - daughters Elsie & Jean. The marriage certificate states that Thomas was deceased. The only other information I know is that there was a rift in his family & Harold left home at an early age, but so far no trace of him until he turned up in College Ave. His daughter Patricia & myself are now the only living relatives. There is a possiblity that the remainder of Harolds family could still live in the areas Formby, Precott & Ormskirk area. I need to find/confirm the brothers names before I can trace Thomas Robinson. A few suggestions
You obviously have a copy of his birth certificate. What about his marriage certificate? What other information are you looking for? When you say beyond his birth what exactly is it you would want to know? |

Dickenson/Robinson - further infoSorry, I don’t think, in my haste I explained myself very well…. Oops.Unfortunately I have little information on my grandfather Harold Robinson. We have his birth certificate & know he was registered in Prescot, also that he had 2, possibly even 4 brothers, 2 of which we have names for but not DOB's. The void is between Harold’s birth in 1903 & his marriage in 1934. Sadly his daughter & myself are the only remaining family that we know of & she has very little recollection of him as he died in 1944 when she was 7 & my father 3. From the little her mother (Margaret) told her, Harold left home at a very early age due to a family rift, hence the difficulty in locating any information on his brothers. The only other piece of information we have is my grandmother (Margaret) told her daughter, that Harold, although he died in Shropshire & a service was held at the local church in Cheswardine for him, his body was taken to Liverpool (his family requested) for burial & my grandmother did not attend. He was burried on top of another & the grave is unmarked, but where we have no idea. My aunt seems to think that Harold's family have remained in/or around the Liverpool/Ormskirk areas. We know Richard (? Youngest brother) married a lady known as (auntie) Kay & they had a daughter Pauline b1940 (who moved south & married). Thomas (? Eldest brother) married an Elsie & had 2 daughters Elsie & Jean. Their daughter Elsie possibly was in the WRENS. Harold & Margaret had 2 children: 1937 - Patricia Margaret who married Frederick Bugg in Bedfordshire They had 3 sons – David, Peter & Anthony. 1940 - Thomas Keith (died 1972) married Pamela Church – Bedfordshire. 2 daughters myself & Alison And lastly, Harold worked at RAF Shawbury (Shropshire) until he died of cancer in 1944. That’s about all the information I have, hence my reason for joining the forum & on the advice of Dotty, the society, although I am unable to attend any meetings for the foreseeable future as I live in Cambridgeshire. I am going out shortly - meeting night, but will get back with any suggestions or thoughts I have over the weekend.
Just one question - if you have his birth certificate then you know his parents names. So you could find them on the 1901 census or look for their marriage. If Harold wasn't the eldest child then some may be named on the 1901 census. |

Membership question...Hi Dotty,Yes,I have subscribed to Ancestry & also with Genes Reunited... tree is growing at a rapid rate. I have today ordered a full birth certificate for Harold, as we only had the small one with no other details on it other than his name, fathers name, DOB & parish, so hopefully once I have his mother’s name I can press on. Is it possible to join the society online? If not could you point me in the right direction please, I want to make sure I join the right group & I have visited so many sites this week my brain is frazzled! Indebted once again… Suzanne. |

You will find all the instructions there. you can either download a form and return it to Sally Dean with a cheque or use Genfair - www.genfair.com - and pay using a credit card. I offer members some free research at the local reference library - examples include looking for people in old directories, electoral register look-ups but need an address. I will also look in old newspapers for funeral reports etc but would need a date of death. Hope you join us. we are a very friendly, helpful lot. :grin: |

My Uncle Ted was a Dickinson and my mother a Robinson.
I'm no good at this so just tell me to shut up but it seemed strange seeing both names together there. |

There are Dickinson's in my husband's line but they hail from Liverpool. Joseph Gerard Dickinson married Frances Edith Maud Scarisbrick 25 May 1901 at Halsall |

Some of mine from my Dad's side come from Liverpool area too.
I also have an aunty Eady (SP) I assume Edith was her name though. She was married to Ted Dickinson. |

(subject to spelling changes) Samuel Dickinson - 1868 - Formby married to (have certificate) Annie Bond - 1874 - Fromby (birth certificate) Samuel's parents: Henry Hoyle Dickinson - 1835 - Manchester Ellenor (Ellen) Lord - 1836 - Formby Annie's parents: John Bond - 1847 - ? Margaret Rimmer - 14/11/1849 - Altcar (have birth certificate) Margaret's parents: Thomas Rimmer - c1801 Esther Cadigan(Cardigan) 1809 - Formby Have children for Henry Hoyle, Samuel Dickinson & John Bond... but need to do some more digging for confirmation. Joseph Gerard Dickinson - born 1879 Liverpool His parents - Joseph Gerard Dickinson & Sarah Eleanor Barton. This Joseph was born 1856 Liverpool. 1881 & 1891 census - 71 & 73 Mint Street, West Derby 1901 census - 39 Portland Place, Everton, Liverpool Joseph is a fruit merchant - as was his son. Joseph senior's parents - William Dickinson & Rachel Windus They married 1852 in Liverpool and William was born about 1824 died 1880 I have them on 1861 & 1871 census - 16 Prospect Street, West Derby That's all I've done on that line |

looks like a different family. If you ever come across a Robert Dickinson, plasterer / builder son of John then shout very loudly  (He appears as in Liverpool in 1841 with no wife a batch of kids who then disappear without trace. He marries Alitha Drake, nee Andrews; they are my gtgt-grandparents)

Just noticed in one of your posts re Margaret ,that at the time of her marriage she was living Flaxfield Road.......my husband was born 'Fordoon', Flaxfield Rd., 1941 !!!!!! Yes it's quite remarkable isn't it..... a definite link, now just waiting to compare notes! Have also made another link to my mothers side of the family this weekend (although very distant) but we have managed to fill in each others gaps. Can't wait for my grandfathers birth certificate to arrive to start delving into his side of the family. Strange how it becomes obsessive in a very short space of time.... thoroughly enjoying it! I too find that time flies by when I'm delving in the past for those pesky ancestors...my grandfather's side is local but every family had a Richard, Robert and Thomas so it was alway difficult to work out who was who...
