Hello John
Do you mean you are looking for them now or more information of them in 1928/29?
At that time there were local directories that would give the name of head of house or electoral registers but neither would tell you more than their names.
I'm not sure how you could find them now. Electoral registers are available to look at in the local reference library but you need an address - they are not name indexed
Hope someone else can help more

Local peopleWelcome to the website and forum.
That address is just round the corner from the church where we have our monthly meetings. We do need more specific information from you Jonn so we look forward to hearing from you again soon...

That address is very, very close to where I'm sitting now - my neighbours who've lived in this street for approx. 50 years might remember who lived there, but they are away at present - due home at the week-end so I'll ask them when I see them.

EmailI have received an email from John and have asked him if I can share this information with the committee but privately. I'm waiting for his reply.
His is an intruiging story and one that has me itching to help solve.
Wouldn't it be funny if your neighbours knew the Whittaker family...

I very much doubt they will - the dates & years are too far apart sadly.
It's a shame the surname is a common one. Just too many Whittakers to work things out. A library trip today though so I shall see what I can do

Just to keep everyone informed - I have emailed this to John.
Today I went tot he library and found -
Local directories 1924-1927 - John Whittaker, film agent - listed in Ribble AvenueVae
Electoral registers
He is there until 1928.
1929 his wife Margaret Isabella is also listed but of course that was because women had won the vote (those aged 30 and over).
After that they vanish from the electoral register and also the local directories. I am guessing they moved away from Southport.
Anyone any idea what a film agent may have done?

thats great dotty!! I did my training at the fhs center. it takes me about 2- 2 1/2 hrs to do 1 page. its so rewarding when you complete a page. I knew the film agent one cause a girl I went to stanley sec mod with her dad was the film agent for all the cine's in liverpool southport and preston areas. she always had autographs from film stars her dad had met. she didn't get the Osmond bro's though I got to see them when they went to the Isle of Man and visited my Uncle Sid.

HelloHi Sylvia
There is a website familysearch.org which is looking for volunteers to transcribe records online. It is part of the LDS church and a lot of their records were state-side but they now have more UK records.
When you register there is a short tutorial to complete and then you get a certificate to print out. As it is a church-based site it's probably for members to incluse in their Personal Progress file.
I've been doing it for a while and it's easy and gets easier as you do it more often.
Get in touch again for more info or give me a PM.
