Ellen Howard, b circa1879, died 1910Hi I am looking for the 'right' Ellen Howard, daughter of William and Ann (possibly Blundell or Abrams-not sure???)Howard, who married Harry Brookfield Sumner on 23/3/1902 and who died on 7/9/1910. I find the right names on the various censuses but there seem to be several William and Ann Howards with Ellens of the right age. Can anyone help please.

Ellen HowardI have one in my family but that is her married name...
You know when she died...do you know where she is buried? You can get information off a MI and then contact the cemetery office.
Good luck with your search...

This is a problem a lot of us find when we have someone with a common name.
If you have her marriage certificate it should tell you her father's occupation and the home address. That should help find the right family on the 1901 census. Unless they all did the same occupation

Ellen HowardMany thanks for your kind suggestions. I have found her in 1901 living with a Peel family as a 'cousin'/domestic servant, prior to her marriage, but no info about her father WIlliam.Have found 2 William Howards married to Ann (one is Blundell, one is Abram). Have found them all on earlier censuses but there are 2 Ellens born 1879 in Ormskirk so have sent for a birth certificate and will see what comes. Will also follow up the MI, think she was probably buried in Duke Street Cemetary as I have some paperwork dated October 1910, the month in which she died, and which may also relate to Frederick Sumner. Thanks again regards Barbie

Hi Barbie, cousin Brian here
Had a quick look at that 1901 census. From the handwriting on the page I think the surname is PEET not PEEL. Doesn't help much as I can't find a suitable marriage to establish Betty's surname. Relationships were usualy to the Head of household, however there has been some crossing out against Ellen's name, so the enumerator may not have been sure
Update
If you go back to the 1891 census Ellen is living with mother Ann Howard (Head of Household). In the same house is Thomas Abram, listed as Ann's brother. There are lots of Abrams dotted around these pages

Barbie I have moved this topic to H - which is where I feel it should be.

The name Peel would be very unusual for around here, whereas Peet is most definitely a local name.

As you know when she died you could try phoning the Crem and they will tell you when and where she was born. They should also tell you who else (if anyone) is buried with her.
