Finding A. BerryI have just got a death cert for gt grandmother Ann Simpson who died 1911 at 161 Hampton Road, and the informant and in attendance is
A Berry, Son in Law, 161 Hampton Road
I have found 161 Hampton on the 1911 census but they are not there, a family called Molyneux is down as living there.
Looking at 1901 census cannot find a A Berry living in North Meols and cannot find a marriage either, but then again I'm not sure who he married.
Gt grandma was a Houghton/Howard/Simpson. She had one daughter from Howard Marriage and she is with her husband 1911, and perhaps two from Simpson marriage, although birth dates of one of the daughters are questionalbe , as she seems to have been born before 2nd marriage
and after first husband died.
The question is, is there anything anyone can recommend looking at in the Libary that may have his full name (A Berry).

I would first start with the local street directory for the year you know he is listed. Then go forwards/backwards
He may be listed with his full name and sometimes an occupation
The electoral register may have him too. And that will list his full names
Let us know if you find him

Thanks Jane,
By the way I am going to the Libary on Tuesday morning next week, got to look at the Lease books for someone.
Will you be there? or anyone else from Society.
Hoping if I have time to find if there is a newspaper report for gt grandfather (John Rimmer) accident leading to his death in 1884. There was a Coroners inquest according to death cert.
Only used those reading machines once and then the film was put in for me

I can be in the library until 11.30 when I'm having a hair cut. Glad to meet you and I can soon show you how to put the films on. One of the readers is easier than the other but both fairly easy to load.
Hope that there is something about the inquest.

Is this the John Rimmer who was attacked by a horse - there's a short note in the Liverpool Mercury, Aug 7th 1884:
An inquest was held at Southport yesterday on the body of John Rimmer, who, according to the medical evidence, died from blood poisoning, resulting from the bite of a horse
Also a report of the inquest in The Illustrated Police News, Aug 16th 1884.
Have I got your e-mail address Yvonne? I can download it & send it to you

Just going back to the Berrys in Hampton Road and there may not be a connection other than coincidence, I used to live in Hampton Road through the sixties seventies and early eighties.
Harold Berry Snr had two sons and two daughters. He owned pairs of semi-detached houses at 140/142 Hampton Rd, 144/146 and 148/150. Also his own detached home at (I think) 96 or 98.
When he died about the late 60's he left two each of the semis to his sons Fred and Harold and one daughter. The other daughter got the big house.
I think the Berrys may have owned other premises locally (perhaps 161).
Maybe this helps.

Thanks mjay.
However whilst looking through pages of census for 1891 trying to find Ann Simpson, I did find an Alfred Berry living in the area my gt grandparents were, (Broom Road)
Problem was he had his mother in law Ann Malone living with him.
Margaret his wife was born in Wigan, so that didn't fit.
Decided to use a credit on the 1911 census and lo and behold Ann Simpson is his mother in law now.
But Alfred and Margaret have been married for 25 years.
Alfred married Margaret Malone Ormskirk reg in 1885.
Checked marriages and a William Simpson married Ann Malone 1894
Then looked for an Ann Simpson death, found one 1892, so have now sent off for it and I reckon the one I have is Ann nee Malone's and not my gt gt grandmother's
He, William would have saved me alot of time if he hadn't married another Ann. and I hadn't assumed that Ann and William on the 1901 census were my relations. Should have noticed that 'Where Born' for Ann says Town NK
Anyone have any use for the death cert of Ann Simpson previously Malone
One thing came out of it I now have the information regarding gt gt grandfather's death

The puzzle deepens.
The 1914/15 Seed's directory shows Mrs A Berry living at 161 Hampton Rd

There is a death same period as Ann Simpson's death for an Alfred Berry c1866-1911
Fits in with what I have seen on census re his birth year.
If it is him how awful to loose your mother and husband the same month.
Ann's death was 1st September, so presumably his was after that.
They must have moved house after the census as it gives 13 Nolan Street on census day.
