I have a sub here as well as Ancestry (more money than sense )
Indexing of censuses, especially 1861 and 1891, is far superior, I think; I have found many relatives here who were simply untraceable on Ancestry. However coverage is still nowhere near that of Ancestry. The address search facility can be useful. They will however have first or second call on the 1911 census when it finally gets online
They also have the outbound ships' lists.
Like Ancestry there are various tiers of subscription; unlike Ancestry you can buy credits on a payg basis; useful if you are fairly sure what you are looking for, but expensive if you need to search many records

Coooeee...
Well folks, I've gone and done it...bought some credits for findmypast and had a peak at my g.g.grandad and his 'new' wife. I wanted to see how many children she owned up to having but the little minx told porkies...said she had none living. Now I shall have to get a birth cert to see for definite she lied or confirm my suspicions...
I tried the loophole that Yvonne posted on another thread but couldn't get anyone that sounded like one of mine. It can be addictive, can't it??
