HalsallEllen b 1857 d of Thomas & Margery (also nee Halsall). My gt-gmother.
Married Nathan Jackson (see I-J section!) 1878. The marriage cert has them tying the knot in Wigan, which seems most odd. I'm sure I have the right one - parents names & happy couple's ages are correct, Nathan's occupation (shoemaker)
Both list their residence on the certificate as Foy Street.
They must have moved back to NM almost immediately, as they are there on the 1881,1891 qnd 1901 censuses
Thomas' parents were James Halsall & Betty Wright, I know nothing of Margery other than that she was also a Halsall. Both families were silk weavers.

Margery HalsallHello:
I don't know if you are aware of the following database - many of the original families of North Meols are listed here. The address is: Http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=park. At the top of the page is a place to insert a name, surname first or you can click on the letter of the alphabet that you want. This site is absolutely fantastic. It helped me take my Spencer line back to 1646! along with all the collateral families, including my Halsalls. Check it out.
Cheers, Bobbie

Link not workingHi there:
I don't know why it wouldn't work - did you try going to file, open and then typing it into the box. That's what I usually do.
I'll check the address again.

How to get to the linkI just checked the address and if you do as I suggested in the previous message, by typing it in, you will get to the right place. Then you can bookmark it. I just tried it and it works.

http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=parkhi again:
http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=park I tried it again and it works for me.
make sure all the dots and slashes are in place. I truly don't understand why it won't work. It is really unfortunate as this site is a real landmine of information.
I'll go back to the site and see if I can figure out which Halsalls Thomas and Margery belong to. If I can find them, I'll post them to this site.
Cheers, Bobbie

Hi there - thanks for the link. I have seen the "Park" database on Ancestry, but not in as useful a format as here.
I wonder if all the Ancestry trees are mirrored here.
Thanks again

Right - here goes, I think I have the answer! (subject to input from a couple of interested parties - ie Joyce Otterstrom & George Rowley)
Nathan & Ellen married in Wigan - it turns out they were staying with Ellen's Aunty Alice in Foy Street so there was a connection
Ellen's parents were Thomas & Margery. They were both Halsalls, and both fathers were called James! Confusing at first but actually very helpful. It does look as though they "jumped the gun" as it were, and had a couple of children in advance of tying the knot, one being Ellen.
Both Thomas & Margery's ancestry is covered in some detail on Joyce Otterstrom's database on Rootsweb / Ancestry, so I have another vast raft of names to incorporate. And it should confirm that George and I are cousins (3rd I think) (see the thread at the bottom of the forum under "Comments")

Lovely when it all comes together and makes sense.
As for jumping the gun - this was so common. In fact I have read that it was actually good if the woman was pregnant before marriage because it proved her fertility!

And I have now heard back from Joyce Otterstrom who agrees that it all looks right (with the usual genealogical caveats that everything might change tomorrow!)
Now for that article for the mag.....

I see that you've contacted Joyce re her "Park" database. I don't know if you mentioned the Ancestry databases to her or not, but I think everyone should be made aware that the lists put on Ancestry by Joyce are very old and have been "messed around with". Unfortunately there is no way that she can now get these removed from the Ancestry site - and she has tried to get them removed only this last month, unsuccessfully.
She is only maintaining the one on the Rootsweb site, and has been busy over the last few weeks updating it. In fact, she does try to update it as soon as she has any new (verifiable) information sent to her, so if you find anything on there that you know is incorrect, and you have the proof, then please get in touch with her.

I didn't mention the Ancestry databases; I am now only using the Rootsweb one anyway, which is far easier to use. I had assumed they were simply copies, as I have never uploaded to Rootsweb, but my Ancestry database is there. Obviously not!!
