Harry Travers, b 1895 SouthportHi everyone, I am looking for information on Harry Travers born 1895, son of William George Travers and Louisa Sumner Travers. I have him in 1901 and 1911 Censuses and then nothing. He was 19 at the outbreak of WW2, there are some H Travers who died but not enough info. He may have been involved in stained-glass work of some sort.
Would appreciate any help from anyone.
Many thanks

I take it you mean WW1?
If he died during the war he should be included in the book Southport Splendid Hearts. It is available in Southport library.
There are also members of the forum who have a copy and just might look him up. You could try asking in the help wanted section

There are no Travers listed in Southport's Splendid Hearts. Seems strange if he was definitely born in Southport - maybe he will be in one of the books that the Library staff made up?

Maybe he didn't die in the war?
He may have emigrated?
Have you got the rest of his family after 19111? It might be worth checking street directories and electoral registers if you think he stayed in Southport
Other than that the only advice I can give is searching for a marriage or death in the GRO indexes

I have a faint recollection that there was a Harry Travers, MC. who I think lived in Formby. He was about 90 years old when he died. I haven't got anything definite on him though.

There was a William G Travers, jeweller, living at 75 Windsor Road, shown in the 1914-15 street directory.

I must claim old age for clouding my memory.
I opened the local paper this evening - The Champion, and on page 2 was an article entitled 'Tribute to a War Hero' - Private Richard George Travers, VC.!
He died aged 86years in Southport in 1963.
He was also awarded the Croix de Guerre. He was an Army ambulance driver.
Unfortunately not Harry Masters as I thought.

Ken I had to go and find the paper from the blue bag to check. It is for Richard George Masters
