A package of documents - relating to Major Charles Hesketh Fleetwood-Hesketh - of North Meols and Hesketh Estate Office, Cambridge Road, Southport.
Documents include -
Licence to Assign for property in Park Crescent, Southport, - dated 1876 - document has 1874 watermark.
Licence to Assign - dated 1917 - relating to properties on corner of Cambridge Road and Manor Road, Southport (plan included).
Licence to Assign dated 1919 - relating to property in Preston Road, Southport.
Also two - Licence to Assign documents - dated 1890 & 1892 - under Anna Maria Alice Hesketh - relating to property in Preston Road, Southport.
Also a solicitors bill - dated 1838 - on 1837 water-marked paper, and various invoices from the Hesketh Estate Office detailing rents - dated 1927.

I really hope whoever buys it keeps it safe. These kind of documents so often end up in the bin. Um wonder what the bids are - have to go and find it now :grin:
A starting bid of £14.99 - and we have until 15th April. I can't afford that

No a bit much Jane isn't it, but a bargain if it is your family. It is amazing where these things turn up. Makes you wonder what is out there.

There is also this from the Scarisbrick estate
A package of documents relating to the Will, etc of the late Sir Charles Scarisbrick of Scarisbrick Hall, Lancaster - who died in 1923. Documents include a Licence to Assign dated 1866 - on 1866 water-marked paper relating to a property in Portland Street, Southport (plan included).
Also - Licence to Assign - dated 1910 - on 1910 water-marked paper - relating to a property in Linaker Street and Upper Duke Street, Southport.
A Licence to Assign - dated 1924 - relating to 61 Norwood Road, Southport (plan included).
A 20-page itemised bill - dated 1923 - from Buck, Cockshott & Cockshott, Solicitors, Southport - relating to arrangements for the funeral of Sir Charles Scarisbrick - together with 3 stamped payment receipts.
Other items are a lettter - dated 1912 - referring to the Kent Collieries Corporation and a 1923 Utilities bill. An interesting selection of historic documents.

Now I would love those. Not looked yet but I bet they too are more than I could pay.
As I thought another starting bid of £14.99. It looks like the same seller too.
I really will have to get my magazines on there and make some money :grin:

It upsets me to see original documents like these being sold privately... they belong in the local record offices or libraries. At the very least I'd like to see good copies being deposited in public research facilities, but better to place the originals in the public domain, make a few good copies and sell those.
Such documents are unlikely to survive in private hands, even if they sell to someone responsible now, what will happen to them in a generation or two? Either they will be uncared for and disintigrate, or they'll just end up in the bin during a clear-out!
