My family name is Howard, past relatives lived in Shellfield Rd and Moss Lane, Churchtown. I originate from Crossens. I am sure I can remember the name Mary and Henry Howard mentioned. My father and grandfather both called William. Great Aunt (edith mary) lived in Shellfield Rd.
is there any connection?

Don't think they're the same Howards; my great-grandparents were Henry and Isabella (nee Rimmer); they lived in Shellfield Road for a time, but in 1916 were in Lawson Street! But who knows if they were related to yours.........? Will keep my eye out on the Howard tree which I am growing!

There is also a link on my branch of Howards with a family of Wrights.

Ann you need to find your Grand parents marriage, send for the certificate and that will tell you your Grandmother's full name.
Or send for a birth certificate for one of their children (your parent maybe) - that will also give her first name and also her surname pre-marriage
Hope that helps a little

My great-grandparents (Henry and Isabella Howard) lived at 109 Warren Road in 1916; they had Mary Alice, Matthew, Robert, Ann, Jenny (or Jane), Richard, Isabella, Lilly and Henry (b.1898)! I believe the address Lawson Street has cropped up somewhere in the tree but I haven't found it yet - but will keep looking. I have a complete Howard tree going back to 1785. You will need to do more searching in the library to find dates, etc. before you order any certificates.

Mary Alice Howard (b.1878) was my maternal grandmother; Henry and Isabella, her parents, my great-grandparents; I have Matthew Howard's Attestation Papers (sent from Canada) and also a copy of the page on which he is commemorated in the Canadian Book of Remembrance, which incidentally is opened every year on 12th March; he was killed at Vimy Ridge in France. Are we related?

I am also descended from Howards (as well as most other North Meols families).. my closest Howard family come from Ellen Howard, who married John Hulm at Christ Church, Lord St on 13th June 1859. Ellen's sister, Mary Howard, married John's brother, Moses Hulm. Ellen was born 13th June 1830 and died 26th Sept 1912. Mary was born 3rd Nov 1833 and her death was registered March 1884.
The Howard sisters were daughters of James Howard, Farmer (c1793) and Hannah Ball (c1797).
James Howard was son of Richard Howard (1763) and Betty Rymer.
Richard Howard son of James Howard and Jennet Wright.
James appears to be James Howorth b1731 son of Richard Howorth (matches name of James' eldest son). Richard Howorth appears to have married Jennet Hoolme in 1722.
I think Richard Howorth may be one born in 1703 to Hugh Howorth.
I have the family bible of John Hulm and Ellen Howard containing theor birthdates and marriage and all family events after their marriage until the birth of my great uncle Bert Hulm in 1913
