Joey's Grave?Has anyone come across any reference to 'Joey's Grave'?
I have a very, vague recollection from the dim and distant path but I cannot trace the source.
It is a query to the Civic society's web site.

Well, the only Joey's Grave I've come across was Joey, the brother of Robert Dunlop, both of whom were killed on the TT Course. I did a google search and came across an article which gave their burial place as Garryduff Church, Co. Antrim. Long way from North Meols though?

It's not the dog's grave is it? There is a name on the stone I'm sure.

That's interesting...Well, I know nowt...but that's nothing new.
It sounds fascinating though. Did the person who made the query give you any further information? Is it a human bean or an animal?

I was right - it is the dog's grave. A bit awkward to photograph because it now has railings around it.
It is in front of the cottage next to the Conservative club in Churchtown.

So who's dog was it? How & why did he get buried there?

BecauseI've seen that myself, I should have remembered...thanks Bez.
I guess it was a garden in 1941. If we look on the electoral role it will say who lived there I guess it will be their dog. A lovely epitaph...

I remember a dogs grave in a front garden of a house in Lincoln. I do remember the dog too. I often thought - "What will someone think when they come to sell the house"
I'm sure there are lots of pets (cats, rabbits etc) buried in gardens but not complete with the headstone

OoooooMy mum has 6 cats dotted about the back garden...only two were cremated. I never thought about when you sell the house!

Well I've got a cat and 2 German Shepherd dogs buried in the back garden, plus the cremated ashes of another dog - next door had horses buried (no markers) and there is a house in Rectory Road which has a proper grave at the bottom of the garden which is apparently for a horse.
I need to check the date on Joey's grave next time I go past, because I could have sworn it actually said 1841. I took the picture on my way back from St Cuthbert's where I had been checking grave locations, one of which looked like "Haptley" on the photo, but when I got up close it turned out to be "Hartley". So the saying that "the camera never lies" isn't actually true.

OooopsI think you're right as usual Bez...it prolly is 1841.
No use checking the electoral role then, eh?
