John & Ellen Ball born c1858 Banks

I have a couple on 1881-1901 censuses John & Ellen Ball, but can't find maiden name for Ellen.

1901 Chapel Lane Banks
John Ball 44 gas stoker
Ellen 44
John 21
James 19
Margery 17
William 10
Margaret A 7
Thomas 6
All born Banks

1881 has them living in Long Lane Banks
John Ball 22 general labourer
Ellen 22
John 1
All born Banks

In 1891 they are in Square Houses Lane Banks.

Possible marriage 1877(JAS) Ormskirk John Ball, John Rimmer, Ellen Walker, Ellen Wareing. Could be one of these Ellens or neither.

Can anyone help sort out Ellen's maiden name please?

Regards
Liza

PS I have tentative parents for John of Lawrence Ball & Margery Collier both born Banks, living in Brow Side on 1861 census. Would be glad if this could be confirmed.

I suspect you would need to send for the birth certificate of one of the offspring!   With a common name such as 'Ball' it's probably the only way to be certain

These were the marriages for 1877 (nothing in the Ormskirk District for 1878-1882!
Ball  John    Ormskirk  8b 1069
Rimmer  John     Ormskirk  8b 1069
WALKER  Ellen     Ormskirk  8b 1069
Wareing  Ellen     Ormskirk  8b 1069

So it could be Walker or Wareing?

Now that will teach me to scroll down before I start looking about.   SeaCop is right though think you need to get the cert for John Ball. Looked on family search IGI and Lancshire BMD nothing.
Also had a quick look at the John Rimmers with a wife Ellen in later census no inlaws staying with them as far as I could see so no clue there . Wouldn't know any other way to find out other than get a cert. This wll give you Ellens maiden name also John's fathers occupation which should help. Good Luck lot of Balls in North Meols    Oh that doesn't sound nice does it.

Hi Germaine & Seacop

Thanks for replying & I was afraid you were going to say that!

I've spent quite a lot on certs already so was trying to avoid any more. Ah well, such is life!
