John Ball - farmer

I met a lovely lady at Astley Hall today who is looking for the marriage of John BALL born abt 1802 in North Meols.

Definitely married to an Ellen (maybe PARKINSON).

They had at least one daughter Ellen christened 08 Dec 1835 in North Meols.

She married Robert BAKER in Penwortham 22 Oct 1856.

She has a lot of info on the Baker side but there are so many John Balls she's not sure which one belongs to her.

Can anyone help?

Thanks Germaine,

I will let her know this information.  My suggestion to her was to check out any wills to see if she can get more about the family.

Yes good idea Dotty    if she knows the date he died or around when he died if he made a will it might show up on.

Also another idea is to check census he might have a relative / parent with him with a bit of luck on one.
My subs have run out not renewed yet or I would have a look.

I have tried looking at the 1841 census - There are 3 Ellen Ball's born about 1835 living in North Meols - but only one with father John!

1841 - Churchtown, North Meols
John Ball - 40 Farmer
Ellen - 35
Alice - 7
Ellen - 5
Margaret - 3

All born Lancashire.

I had a quick look at the 1851 but can't spot any Ellen with parents John & Ellen. I'm not even sure this will help the woman. I think she might already have known this.

She really wants to get back another generation but because there are so many john ball's born in the area around the same time I'm not sure how she would know which is her John.
Dotty

I concur...

I was trying my best but I did ask her why she was adamant she wanted to start her tree with this John Ball.  My suggestion was to start with the daughter of this jOhn Ball because she had the husband, the cert and children but...and thereby hangs the tale.

We can only do what we can!

Hi Dotty   she must think as she has his name she will start there but lke you say would be better to start with what she has the daughter. Then maybe she will find clues and be able to find the right John Ball. Think it will be difficult I am stuck with a John Wright got 2 or 3 to choose from so I have had to leave it for now. One day maybe something will turn up.
Janes find looks good he is a famer .
Wish her luck.

Doh...

Oh, I meant to say thanks for the look-up Jane.

I think she may have that info but the problem lies in that there were several John Balls of a similar age who married Ellens (no surnames).  They all had families with the names she's researching but she doesn't know exactly which one is the right one...

Germaine, you are so right...sometimes you have to stick them on the back burner for a while!  I think she may have to find the wills and/or a burial plot as they may hold further info.

Mother has a very apt phrase "family history is like hide and seek...they hide, we seek".

I will email the lady today and let her know that we are trying our best.

WOW

You have been busy Germaine

Is that Farington in or near Leyland?  I used to work for Leyland Motors many years ago...

As you say that man sure made his mark on society...

The lady researching John Ball has now registered on the forum so she will be able to check this latest info herself.

Thanks for your hard work.  That deluxe thingy sounds good...

Hi Dotty Yes I would think so it says reg. district Preston.
Ellen (Mother) was born Longton which is where she was in 1881.
No trouble enjoyed doing it while I was on my own it was easy.
Yes this world delux gives all countries. My UK subs had run out so tried the free trial on World. Will go back to UK later.
Well off to have a coffe before the crowd arrive
Just been having a google about the area still looks pretty rural I wonder if the farm is still going. On one census they seemed to live very close to Wham Lane which carries on to Chain House Lane ( these are showing up on maps)
Best go get that coffee
