There was an article in an issue of The Rimmer Review about this John Rimmer - will report back when I find it

Someone was telling me about a medal - but so many people spoke about various things and my memory isn't what it was
I'm sure they said it was for sale on Ebay - they either bought it or couldn't afford it but I can't remember which

hmm - I think I might have this one. Not many John Thomas Rimmers around, only 2 likely Ormskirk registrations (1878 & 1880) Based on censuses mine was b around 1879 which fits the 1878 medalist better (he was 2 & 12 in 1881 and 1891 respectively). I have him up to 1891 with parents William & Elizabeth, and a possible reference in Liverpool in 1901 which would also fit if it is indeed him
My connection would be through his mother Elizabeth Dandy, who in turn was daughter of one of my Jackson tribe. He would be a 3rd cousin 2x removed

What an amazing chap I do hope it's the same one, although we seem to come from completely different gene pools

Well, if he's a typical Rimmer then I'm not at all sure where I come from Although I have to say that my youngest sister held the record for the farthest javelin throw at Stanley School for many years, one of my cousins (Ray Rimmer) played professional football and I did play badminton for Lancashire (twice) - so maybe not quite so out-of-style

It is definitely the same chap - I couldn't resist getting the birth certificate. Interestingly he was initially registered as "George", with "John Thomas" appearing as "Name entered after registration". Not seen that before, confused me for a while.
He died in 1962, just after his 84th birthday
