John Wright - born 1811Hello,
I am lookinf for infomation on my gt gt gt grandfather John Wright. All I know if that according to the 1841 and 1851 census' he was born in 1811 in Southport
I checked the IGI and there is nothing specific. The only John Wright I did find was for a baptism on February 24, 1811 in North Meols, son of Peter and Peggy. This lead to another dead end since I can't find any more info on Peter and Peggy. No marriage and no other children.
John went on to marry Mary Halsall (born c1810 in Ormskirk) in Ormskirk in 1834. He was a Shoe Maker. I have info on the decendants of John and Mary, but have reached nothing but dead ends on their ancestors.
Any help would be really appreciated.

PS For all those who read my other entry, in the other forum - I may have found out a way to post in this one, but I still have to hold up my hand to the "dim" bit!!

I'm sure you are aware that in earlier Census Returns the adults ages were 'rounded up' so he could have been born 1809 (son of Nicholas & Jenny, Marshside) or 1813 (sone of John & Ann, Marshside) - take your pick? It would be useful if you found him in a later Census which would give a (slightly) more accurate year of birth!

Or were they rounded down?
Judy did put she found him in 1851 too.
Judy have you looked any further though for other census?

I have had to change some of the post Unsworth. It just isn't easy to read. If you quote from a census please at least list the household as it is on the page rather than a list of people in no particular order.

Thanks so much for all the replies.
I did make a start on a reply last night, then thought that I'd check my info before posting it - so I'll post this one frst then go back to myother one - you'll therefore see 2 replies.
To unsworth,
The info you gave me I already had. This is my John, but I know nothing of him before the 1841 census, so its his ancestor's I' looking for. Thankyou anyway.

First of all, the other forum was a misc one. I just posted it there as I COULD - as I say DIM!!
On to John
I checked ALL the census' 1841, 1851, 1871 all say 1811. 1861 says 1812. The BMD index says he died in 1873, aged 60. Da da - that makes his dob to be 1813, which would fit nicely with John and Anns boy!
Tell me something - I know both Southport and Marshside are part of North Meols, but somene born in Marshside (then) say they were born in Southport? I know they would now because my cousins 3 kids were are born in "Southport" but they live in "Marshside".

PS Things go full circle -
John was born in Marshside
His son was born in Ormskirk - moved to Blackburn
Children were born in Ormskirk, but their children were born Manchester area.
My grandma was born in Bury
My mum and uncles in Failsworth
Both my uncles moved back to Southport
ids were born in Southport
Ans then, as I say, one of them, with his family live in Marshside!!

The North Meols/Southport thing is very confusing! North Meols was a township in its own right, comprising Churchtown, Marshside, Crossens, etc. Southport (at that time) did not exist - it was a collection of fishermen's cottages known as South Hawes! When South Hawes became Southport it enveloped North Meols! Does that clear the mud or make it worse 
I am the 4th generation of my family to have been born in Marshside, but I now live in Crossens - didn't travel far

As for our ancestors - some of them like to hide and make the chase difficult for us. :grin:

I checked John & Ann, and came up with John Wright married to Ann Rymer June 2, 1807 - John being the 3rd child. So...........since you and I may berelated, would you have any info on Anns family?
