Johnson HousesCan anyone tell me anthing about Johnson houses.
did they belong to one family and where abouts where they .
I have found my G G Grandmother living in Johnson houses in 1861.
Also can someone remind me of the little dashes next to names. On cesus images. What they mean .
Is it the one dash is a household and the names between the two dashes mean the same house.
eg there is one dash and Richard Johnson then another dash. then the family I have. But these are all put between two dashes . Hope that makes sense.

Johnson's Houses, I think I am certain, are now known as Johnson Street, which is a narrow street, no more than an alleyway that runs between, Stanley Street and Bath Street North ( originally School Street) I do not know anything about the family. I will do some more research on this.

Oh thanks . It did look like on the census that there were quite a few houses so thought it must have been a street of some sort.

Census markingsHi - as I understand it the double mark is for a household solely occupying one dwelling. The single mark is dividing two families that share one dwelling, eg one family on the ground floor and one on the first floor.
