The only William Jolley I know of is the one who married Mary Ann Greatbatch on the 17th March 1830 - turns out he is on the census as "Jolly".

However, the 1841 census shows a William Jolley with a wife Eliza living in Upper King Street in 1841 with 2 children, William aged 1 and Robert, 3 months.   I can't tell what the occupation is meant to be.

jolley family

It is a clogger but I don't think he is family. I am a member of ancestry and have a public tree their under the name of bryant/jolley. The details of my william 1811 are on my tree. William was born in wigan and eliza ormskirk. For some reason he or his family moved to southport in the early 1800's. One of the grandchildren also eliza married a john birch and they had 3 children all born in southport around 1895-1900. This is why is think that there would still be family living in the area. My great grandfather sidney jolley was in the war in india, boer war and then in staffordshire in a training camp, his son robert james was in WW1 and died in 1918,quite possibly he is listed on some kind of war memorial in southport. There were at least 4 sidneys born into the family.
thanks for the info so far

Yvette.

Jolley is one of those local names to Southport. I often see it in directories etc when I'm doing research for people. I'm sure I did something for a member last year - Jolley. If you are a member of the society I do some r=free research and you could also make contact with others researching the name.

A(nthony) Jolly was an undertaker in Marshside (taken over by Moisters) - he 'saw' to my Mum Smile
