Leadbetters Missing from 1881 CensusI can't find my family on the 1881 census. I have found them in '71 and '91. Obviously they moved around quite a bit, as Edward (b. 1847 Churchtown) was by 1876 a stationmaster according to his daughter Mary's birth certificate.
1876 Mary Louisa was born Kirkby
1878 Annie was born Kirkby
1881 No trace on census
1882 Christiana born Freshfield
1885 Ada born Preston
1888 Jane born Scarisbrick
1890 Edith and Lillian born Crossens (all those girls! Lucky man)
1891 Census: Living in Church Lane (formerly Hoole) North Meols-Station Master
Thinking they must be misnamed, I have looked right through the 1881 census for Kirkby without success. I wondered whether there might be records for the Railway Company which could point me in the right direction. He was Stationmaster at Halsall in 1901 working for the L & Y Railway
Any contributions/suggestions very gratefully accepted. Best, Fran

you could also put this under L
You are looking for - 1881 census
Head - Thomas
Children - Mary Louisa and Annie
Wife??
Have you tried different places. Ancestry & LDS probably use different methods of transcribing and you may be lucky on one while the other has them down as something completely different.
The only place I know that has railway records is The National Archives - but someone else may know different :?:

Have you...If you think they may have been misspelt, have you tried putting in some of the variations of the name Leadbetter?
They are there in the census...but just hiding from you!
