Linaker and Sutton connections

Hi everyone - have just joined this forum.

I've been doing some research on my wife's family (she's a Sutton) which has eventually led to Southport and Ormskirk, via Birmingham, Rhyl and Dewsbury! So now we're looking for ancestors of Harry Linaker Sutton born Sep 1891 in Ormskirk, father Solomon Sutton c. 1959 and mother Mary Linaker c. 1870. Solomon at some point decided to call himself Solomon Rothschild Sutton, although whether that was really his middle name I don't yet know. He was a golf caddie master at one of the courses near Southport, and his son Harry became a golf pro in the 1920s. Solomon's parents seem to have been William Sutton c. 1826 and Dorothy Hooton c. 1825, but beyond that I have yet to go.

Any hints, clues or suggestions very welcome!

There is no record of a Dorothy Hooton being baptised at St Cuthbert's.

Hi all - thanks for your replies.

Thanks for the census info unsworth, that has to be them. Have now found them in the 1861 (living at Back Road, North Meols) and 1871 as well - 11 children in all. That Dorathy Hooton looks pretty likely too, Germaine. Possible marriage of Dorothy Hooton and William Sutton is Apr-Jun 1848 Ormskirk Vol 21 p387 (but 8 names on the page so not certain). I feel a GRO order coming on...

Yes looks like it .
I looked on line nothing. Also shame my little book doesn't start marriages till 1853, too late.
Still it is nice getting the certs.

I have been looking at the Hooton's today and Dorothy Hooton did marry William Sutton. Dorothy is an uncommon name at that time.

Thanks Bez - so definitely worth £8 to get the marriage cert then. Will post the result when I get it.
Bez

They would have married at St Cuthbert's at that time.

Info from Solomon's birth cert : birth 15 April 1857, Churchtown, father William Sutton, mother Dorothy Sutton formerly Hooton.

Have you looked at the "Park" database on www.rootsweb.com ?
