My Lloyd family is from North Meols "Southport" and this is my line (so far)

Ironically my Mom's family is also from Lancashire (Darwen), i have always been the one asking questions about family, so after my car accident i decided that i would spend my time searching my heritage. I decided that i would put a family book together (for family only) so we would have something to pass down and add too. At first i was just going to do the people but have since been collecting recipes of the era as well to add at the back. This looks like a great site with lots of other people looking for their heritage within the North Meols Lancashire area.

My Mom's side is Walmsley, Fish, Atherton, Butterworth, Duxbury, and as we all know the list of names is ever growing, which names are you searching? This side has been relatively easy to trace. Its been the Lloyd's that have been harder to track. I was told that Ruth, Peter (Samuel) and Richard left after their Mother passed away, they landed in the United States but because the United States at the time was not involved in WW1 at that time Richard came to Canada with Ruth. Tracing my family has been a wonderful experience, i actually got to find out why my 1 grandfather never really knew much about his Father. People here think it is unusual that not only did my Grandfather Richard Lloyd serve in WW1 but also my GGrandfather (Killed in Crump Trench France 1917, British cemetery). Tracing the family can be very informative, i have been in contact with 1 of my Mothers cousins

.. It would be great to find other relatives to share information with ie: current family and where everyone is. Anyway it is a beautiful day here today and lots of yard work after the long winter. Have a wonderful day.

Please be careful when looking at relatives coming from Darwen. There are actually two places with Darwen in their Name. Lower Darwen which became part of the Town of Blackburn about a hundren years ago and Over Darwen which was the town of Darwen. Try "cottontown.org" for the history of the area

Yes i will have to consider joining, i think i have over whelmed my Aunt (in her late 80's) as she never knew much about the Lloyd family, i have my family tree on my heritage, i gave my aunt the addy and she has been going to town adding her kids and grand kids etc..

Yes thank you i know about Darwen and Over Darwen i should have specified it is Over Darwen my family is from.. ie: David Fish 1819 is my GGG grandfather, Beulah Entwisle is my GGG grandmother, Catherine Duxbury is my GGGG grandmother etc.. i am back 34 generations with my Mom's side.

Now i have to add to the Lloyd, while researching i found Jacob Lloyd married Ann Lyon (Burscough) they married in Dec 1882. I guess the story was true, they just had who the Lyon name belonged too wrong

It sure was a great day to be outdoors and i got a lot of the yard cleaned up, sure glad the snow is all gone now. Looking forwards to the beautiful flowers of spring and summer. May you all have a wonderful day.

I see you have a 'Moses' in your Lloyd tree, name comes up in ours. Sure when Darren gets here he can piece it together better than I.

No common names for the Darwen connection, I am researching Sharples, Mainwaring, Marsden on one side. Norton and Coleman on the other.

Been a bit side tracked of late, I am searching for (I hope) a living relative who was shipped to Australia in 1947 and got some leads this week, afraid it has totally consumed every second of my time

Hi Lynda & Darren,

The Moses i have was 9 yrs old when he died (1870). In the 1861 census the eldest child Elizabeth Lloyd (e) is 12 which makes no sense unless both Richard and Elizabeth had previous marriages which i think may be the case as 1861 also shows a stepson Robert Wright (7yrs), and they married in 1855. I know that Jacob re married after Ann's death (around 1907), Richard, Ruth and Samuel (Peter) left home because they did not like the new woman ( a family friend). Also in 1861 they have a E at the end of the last name, could be an error

. I have a description of my Grandfather Richard Lloyd 1891/92 (thanks to attestation papers from WW1) also a picture of him and grandmother in later life, i never met him as he passed away around the time of my birth, i am planning a trip to the grave site where he is buried here in Canada (Now that all the snow is gone

)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - in 1861 Elizabeth Lloyd is a servant not a daughter - she is a 12 year old nurse, born in North Meols.

The rest of the household is:

Elizabeth Lloyde - wife - mar - 31 - wosted cotton weaver - born N Meols
Issac R Lloyde - son - unm - 4 - scholar - born N Meols

Robert Wright - stepson - unm - 7 - scholar - born N Meols

However, I agree that Elizabeth was likely to have been married to a Wright before marrying Richard.

I have lots of Lloyds in my tree but haven't been able to connect in with these................ yet

I have found relatives living with relatives and still stated as being a 'servant'. It doesn't necessarily rule out a family affiliation. Of course, it doesn't tell you to which family they belong.

Sometimes answers bring even more questions...

Yes Darren that is right, moses died in 1870 not sure what he died from so i can only assume from what health issues have presented themsleves with my Lloyd family. ie: my brother David (1956) was 6 months old when he died (one of the first babies in Canada to have open heart surgery) which according to my specialist would have been Dr.Mustard. My 1 Aunt (1927) and my 1 sister (1962) both were born with 1 Kidney. You can learn so much when you do the family tree.

Well Jo, Dotty beat me to my response, i have learnt that back in the day family looks after family and to never discount that a Servant / Nurse could be the eldest child or a relative of some sorts. My friend who has been researching geneology for 45 yrs now, told me that usually when the last name is the same you will find them in the family somewhere.

Thank you Dotty you must have read my mind.

And you are right some answers bring more questions.. "Sigh"

Well i am off to exercise my brain somemore on my family tree..

Well i have been in contact with Joyce O, and after many e-mails back and forth it looks like we have my Lloyd family figured out. Richard Lloyd 1825 - Father: Thomas Lloyd his mother was Susannah Lloyd, Susannah's Mother was Susannah Rainford and her father was George Lloyd, Georges father was Peter Lloyd from formby.

Welcome "cousin"- Peter Lloyd of Formby is my husband's 6 x great-grandfather.

Can I just check that your Richard was the son of Thomas Lloyd (baptised 26 Feb 1797, North Meols) who married Elizabeth Wright on 14 May 1822 at North Meols and he had siblings - Thomas, Ann and Susannah? Was he a male servant in 1841 aged 15 in the household of John and Ellen Ball in Churchtown?

Yes that is my Great Great Grandfather Richard Lloyd that married Elizabeth Wright "14 May 1822", Father Thomas Lloyd 1797.. and he was living with John & Ellen Ball at the age of 15 in 1841 census.
