Margaret Houghton - 1881Hi,
Does anyone have any info on Margaret Houghton b1881 Birkdale?
I am looking at a possible link between the Houghton & Dickinson families.
This is what I have so far:
Richard Dickinson b1874 - Formby
1901 census shows him still living with his mother Ellenor @ 154 Church Road Formby (ironmongers)
1901 census has Margaret living at home with her mother & siblings at 20 Liverpool Road, Ainsdale:
Catherine 46 (widow) - midwife
John 25 - gardener
Robert 22 - gardener
Margaret 20 - dressmaker
Jessie 17 - at home
Elizabeth 15 - bootmakers shop asst
Annie 12 - at home
Here is where I put 2+2 together....
Last quarter of 1904 shows a marriage between Richard Dickinson & Margaret Houghton.....
Question is... did I make 4... or am I barking up the wrong avenue?
Any assistance would be much appreciated.

If it were me...I could be wrong Suzanne but I think you're going to have to send for the marriage cert of Margaret and Richard that way it will give the address of the bride at the day of the wedding and of course her mother's maiden name. How many Margaret Houghton's can there be...Bez are you there!!!

It was worth a try.....
Too much of a co-incidence I thought, especially as Richard had lived in Formby all his life.
Best get ordering... again
Would like to have added a smiley.... but they don't come out... must be doing something wrong (normal for me lol)

Oh honey patience is hard when you just want to find out about your ancestors
Sometimes I have found an ancestor on one census and then they are married on the next one. So that at least helps work out if it is the right marriage - you already have a first name. Not always though with so many people called the same names.
As Dotty says though the only way is either send for that certificate or find the entry in a parish record - but then you have to know which church it took place at. Usually the bride's parish but not always
I think our ancestors just like to watch us run round getting nowhere at times

You are right, certificate is the best way.... too much of a co-incidence to pass up.
could you let me know if you get a roll smiley please..... not used a smiley before (on anything) & don't know if it has worked... expected to see the face on my screen.
Best wishes from a not so literate pc user!

well you got a smiley face so must have done it right
When you are typing a reply you type in the box. If you want a smiley just click on the one you want -
Under the faces you will see - view more emoticons. If you click on that another window opens and you get lots to choose from. Just click on the one you want
You can always preview your post first to check.
Hope that helps.

ExcitementFamily history is exciting...if you're lucky, you never lose it. I still wait all a-tremble for a cert to arrive.
I can see your smiley too...it has rolling eyes!!

...That's one good thing...there's always a tomorrow! (Well until there isn't...)
Ha ha ha, fingers crossed for your first cert. Did you know there are websites that have certs posted and with luck you could find one that fits what you're looking for? We have a thread on the forum about helpful websites...it could be worth a look. I have one on my PC, I'll have a look later at home and PM you...
